    Abstract:
    The electronic purse is one of the latest smart card applications. It handles small payments and is complementary to other payment cards. However, there have been considerable obstacles to its widespread adoption and use by customers and retailers. This chapter explores and models the factors - economic, technological and social - and forces driving the adoption and use of the Moneo electronic purse in the South of France. An empirical study on 200 individuals allows us to analyse the determinants of the probability of adoption for consumers and retailers (Logit models) and of the frequency of use for consumers (Poisson model). The latter is found to be significantly explained by four factors (relative advantage, cost, visibility and security), income and gender with the expected sign. Finally, the reasons why Moneo’s introduction seems to have met with failure are determined, and potential solutions to help reach the required critical mass by redirecting marketing strategies are proposed.

    Explains that the smart card is increasingly being held and used by consumers in the UK, particularly in its electronic purse or loyalty card capacity. The smart card is a plastic card that carries an embedded computer chip with memory and interactive capabilities. Describes the current major payment options open to consumers, and accepted by retailers, with a review of the costs and benefits of each payment option. Considers the electronic purse pilot of Mondex as a new payment option and looks at the issues facing retailers with the introduction of smart cards. Concludes that acceptance of the smart card as a new payment option depends heavily on retailers’ attitudes and these will be formed by the so‐far unquantified balance of costs and benefits that will accompany the introduction of the smart card.

    Equipping a smartphone with NFC (Near Field Communication) capacity adds new functions to it. One of these functions is the emulation of a contact less card, which enables the smartphone to realize commercial transactions (e.g. Payment, loyalty and ticketing) through NFC enabled Point of Sale (POS). Initially, the card emulation related services were uniquely hosted on a secure element, e.g., SIM, and thus, their protection against security threats is ensured. Recently, Android proposed the Host-based Card Emulation (HCE) that enables an ordinary application to emulate a contact less card. Hence, the complexity and outlay of emulating a contact less card are reduced. In this paper, we clarify the concept of HCE, and present its history and current utilizations. We further compare HCE with SE-based card emulation in terms of security and development issues. Finally, we discuss the impact of HCE on the ecosystem of the NFC-enabled services.

    This article describes the card types currently being used and their basic capabilities. Standardisation issues are also addressed. Card types range from simple embossed cards to multi-application cards, with increasing performance. Card applications in transport have clear links to applications in other sectors. Standardisation is following a stepwise approach, from the physical aspects to actual application standardisation. Most of the applications require portable file or payment card capabilities and thus memory card and processor cards respectively. Multi-application cards cover all card capabilities and allow applications to be combined into a limited number of entity bound physical cards; person-cards, vehicle-cards and freight-cards.     Almost a decade ago, we could all have heard of the smart card and its role in the financial sector, especially for retail transactions. The smart card provides special security compared to normal monetary transactions. But its implementation in the case of retail payments has not been as popular. But it was really useful in the area of transit payments and personal identification. But some other sectors, such as mobile telecommunications, found this more useful and began using them in mobile phones as subscriber identification modules (SIMs). But in today's world, people need to carry different cards like PAN cards, driver's licenses, Aadhaar cards, etc., which makes people more uncomfortable as they have to carry different cards at the same time.

    There are numerous organizations planning to deploy large multi-agency or regional smart card systems for both payment and non-payment applications. Smart cards are being targeted for their robust technical capabilities that support complex program needs and multiple applications on a single card. The purpose of this paper is to explore the potential for transit agencies to partner with non-transit entities in deploying joint smart card systems. Potential benefits of partnering include cost sharing, improved customer access and service, as well as other synergistic benefits.

    Thesis topic is innovations and trends in electronic banking. The first chapter focuses on theoretical basis of electronic banking and describes the forms of electronic banking. The second chapter focuses on analysis offer electronic banking in four Slovak banks, safety analysis of electronic banking, analysis of the use of internebanking, analysis of payment cards issued and EFT POS terminals. The third capter focuses on innovation electronic banking, vision for the future of electronic payment and proposals for security in elektornic banking.

    The use of an electronic smart-card as an alternative means for users' to access and pay for transport services is now emerging as a viable option for many operators. However, although the technology has been available for more than a decade it is only within the past year or two that transport operators and other system providers have begun to introduce, on a medium to large scale, smart-card based systems to either complement or replace existing means of payment. This paper aims to provide a perspective on some of the recent activities associated with the development and deployment of smart-card based systems and identify some of the issues which may be crucial in opening up the market for cards in the transport sector and considering the card as a tool for more than just payment.     As part of the Payment Cards Center's series of discussion papers, this paper provides an overview of smart card technology and its potential for significantly increasing payment card functionality. In addition to reviewing the current market for smart cards in the U.S., this paper examines the costs and barriers associated with their wide spread adoption. European and US smart card acceptance is compared. In addition, this paper provides background on the technological and infrastructure developments behind smart cards, a discussion of current smart card applications, and a review of smart card adoption in banking.

    The cards that can be used for a combination of services are known as smart cards. Smart cards are being used widely in various sectors mainly in health and educational sectors. Some of the banks have started issuing these smart cards in combination with other agencies. This paper proposes an interoperable smart card system that provides students with a campus identification card along with a debit card cum Automated Teller Machine card which can be used by the students as their student identity card, library card, cards for fee payment or bill payment cards at various food courts or shopping malls This paper also discuss about the satisfaction rate among the students and fields of improvement.
