Models and Methods in Social Network Analysis, first published in 2005, presents the most important developments in quantitative models and methods for analyzing social network data that have appeared during the 1990s. Intended as a complement to Wasserman and Faust's Social Network Analysis: Methods and Applications, it is a collection of articles by leading methodologists reviewing advances in their particular areas of network methods. Reviewed are advances in network measurement, network sampling, the analysis of centrality, positional analysis or blockmodelling, the analysis of diffusion through networks, the analysis of affiliation or 'two-mode' networks, the theory of random graphs, dependence graphs, exponential families of random graphs, the analysis of longitudinal network data, graphical techniques for exploring network data, and software for the analysis of social networks.

Abstract This article reviews developments in network analysis and its applications to problems of organization. From an arcane social science tradition focused chiefly on methods, it has evolved into a major paradigm for thinking about and researching relationships and social structure within and among organizations. Network ideas and methods have been embraced by organizational theorists in part because the world of organizations has itself changed: from centrally coordinated hierarchies to loosely linked strategic alliances and “network forms.” Methods issues continue to be important in network analysis; however, the data and the statistical methods appropriate to network study are quite different from those of other social and behavioral science domains. Network methods and models at varying levels of analysis are reviewed – node, dyad, subnetwork (clique or cluster), and network – and how they have been applied to recent subfields of organizational study.

Social network is a reflection of a social structure, composed of actors and one or several kinds of their mutual ties. Social Network Analysis (SNA), matured in 1970s, is a piece of art and technology quantitatively analyzing social relations. Dynamic Network Analysis (DNA), proposed in 2002, integrates Social Network Analysis, Link Prediction, Multi-Agent Simulation methods and technology, and its core is the information collection, data processing and relationship forecasts and so on. Super network, proposed in the same year, refers to the above and beyond existing network, which has characteristics as multi-layer, multi-level, multi-dimensional, multi-attribute, congestion, and coordination. We have the techniques, tools and indicators of the three network analysis methods collated and summarized, and applied in opinion leader identification. The results proved that to identify and judge opinion leaders, especially the negative ones, with social network analysis, dynamic network analysis and super network analysis played a certain role in controlling network development, from the network behavior.

Social network analysis provides a set of theories, concepts, methods, techniques, and instruments for the study of social structure. This paper presents social network analysis as a research method focusing on whole network approach. A review of social network theory is briefly presented and network analysis as a research method is discussed by describing network data, data collection methods, measures and indicators and their analysis and interpretations. A study of online Free/Open Source Software Communities is presented as an example of the use of the methodology. In this sample, the method of collecting online network data is also explored. Overall, the paper shows how to use social network analysis for the study of social structure.

The proliferation of social network data has unlocked unprecedented opportunities for extensive, data-driven exploration of human behavior. The structural intricacies of social networks offer insights into various computational social science issues, particularly concerning social influence and information diffusion. However, modeling large-scale social network data comes with computational challenges. Though large language models make it easier than ever to model textual content, any advanced network representation methods struggle with scalability and efficient deployment to out-of-sample users. In response, we introduce a novel approach tailored for modeling social network data in user detection tasks. This innovative method integrates localized social network interactions with the capabilities of large language models. Operating under the premise of social network homophily, which posits that socially connected users share similarities, our approach is designed to address these challenges. We conduct a thorough evaluation of our method across seven real-world social network datasets, spanning a diverse range of topics and detection tasks, showcasing its applicability to advance research in computational social science.

Research on complex networks has tightly relation with social network analysis. In fact, the fast growth of network science in the past decade is fertilized by the basic concepts and methods established by social network analysis.Meanwhile, social network analysis is also helped by the network science. This paper has briefly reviewed some of recent progress in the related topics done by our groups. The topics include cooperation-competition networks, the definition, detecting methods and index of significance of community structures, spatial structure of social networks and their consequence on the structure and dynamics of networks.

Social network analysis is a well-established research method in sociology. Some scholars also refer to this quantitative approach to graph theory as network science. As research intensified in the 1970s, it gained the attention of researchers in many other fields and has become an interdisciplinary research method. Social network analysis collects data from multiple sources and unearths new information by building network structures. The constructed network topology diagram and the calculated network properties are eventually analysed and generalised to produce further research results. The use of social network analysis (SNA) in a few different fieldstourism, society, transportation, citation, viral communication, medical education, and economic geographyis reviewed in this essay. Social network analysis is a quantitative analysis method that blends multiple disciplines. Various relationships are quantified through the construction of networks and property analysis. The paper is categorized according to the different fields of application. The different applications of social network analysis in various fields show its general and specific analytical approach.

Currently, social network owns the hottest topic in people's life. The real system belongs to the complex physics model and data-mining area. Social network, like facebook.com, myspace.com and twitter.com, is a real-time complex system. Author tries to introduce a model [1] to predict the life cycle of the social network. A social network is a social structure made up of a set of actors (such as individuals or organizations) and the dyadic ties between these actors. The social network perspective provides a clear way of analyzing the structure of whole social entities. The study of these structures uses social network analysis to identify local and global patterns, locate influential entities, and examine network dynamics.
