Supercritical fluid technology has been received much attention in many fields. Supercritical fluid is a compressible fluid above its critical temperature and pressure, which has dissolving power comparable to that of liquid and has transport properties intermediate between gas and liquid. The unique physical properties of supercritical fluid can be advantageously utilized in environmentally benign separation, reaction, and material processing. Applying supercritical fluids to various systems and processes is attractive both from an academic and an engineering point of views. In this paper, reaction characteristics in supercritical fluids and their application are reviewed.

The latest development in supercritical fluid technology and its applications were reviewed in this paper,with the emphasis placed on the supercritical fluid extract (CSCFE) and two recently developed processes of preparing micro-particles by supercritical fluid technology,the rapid expansion of supercritical solution (RESS) process and the supercritical anti-solvent (SAS) process.

The solute solubilities in supercritical CO2 with and without cosolvent are calculated with the MPR-2 model.By taking supercritical CO2 and cosolvent as a pseudocomponent and calculating equation parameter of the pseudocomponent by VDW-1 mixing rule,ternary supercritical system is simpled to binary supercritical system.The solubility data of 8 solutes in supercritical CO2,which are given including 268 data,are correlated and calculated.The calculated results agree fairly with the experimental results.

The use of supercritical fluids as media for the formation of particles is a recent development. Three kinds of methods to prepare ultrafine particles by supercritical fluids are described, including rapid expansion from supercritical solution, supercritical anti-solvent precipitation and particles from gas-saturated solutions. Principles and characteristics of the three ways and progress in application of supercritical solution precipitation are introduced.
