    Abstract:
This text covers the thousands of idioms used in English and It includes full-sentence definitions to show the idiom in its correct grammatical and collocational sense.
Chinese idioms are the short words, most of which consist of three syllables. They have double meaning and syntactic flexibility. These words are not only a crucial issue to teach intermediate and advanced foreigners, but also the most difficult part for learners. It is very integral to compile the learning Chinese idiom dictionary for the students who study Chinese as the second language and is helpful for students to grasp the usage and the grammar of each idioms. Indeed it provides crucial references to teachers and students at the same time. This study mainly looked through the entry words of the learning Chinese idiom dictionary. Considering the problem from angles of pertinence, practicality, availability quantity, typicality, normativity, firstly, we explained the selection of the entry words of the learning Chinese idiom dictionary and the principles which teachers and learners should follow. Secondly we argued the context selection of idiom explanation in basic meaning, supplementary meaning, liberal translation separately. Thirdly, we elucidated the specific principles of interpretation of learning Chinese idiom dictionary with the principle of equivalence, the principle of quantitative information and simplifying principle.

The specification of the properties and scope of the idioms is not merely a theoretical problem that is necessary to be solved in Chinese idiomology, but a practical problem involved in lexicography.Based on previous studies, this paper provides practical criteria of idiom dictionary,in comparison with contemporary idiom dictionaries and concrete practice in the compilation of Xinhua Idiom Dictionary. It is maintained that narration is the primary standard of the definition of idioms, providing the separation of word from idiom.Accordingly, idioms can be extended to multi-syllables rather than restricted to the three-syllabic format. However,it is suggested that two-syllabic items should be excluded following the language sense of the native speakers.

Collins COBUILD English Dictionary has been hailed as a revolutionary dictionary. In compiling an active English-Chinese learner's dictionary,Chinese compilers can draw inspirations from it in building up corpora, providing more collocational information, setting up all kinds of usage notes, arranging senses of polysemous words according to frequency of use, marking frequency of core words, providing real-life examples, and providing pragmatic and cultural information, thus making the Chinese-English learner's dictionary an ideal tool for learning English.

We wish to explore some of the aspects of the exploitation of two dictionary files by LONGMAN Ltd, one for 'core' English and one for English idioms. We'll try to show the feasibility of an approach to language processing based on a lexicon, conceived of as the repository of grammatical, semantic and knowledge-of-the-world information. After giving a brief description of the computer files (Section I) we'll focus on the following points:(a)a lexical approach to grammar allows a considerable simplification of the PSG component of a parsing system (Section II, Part One);(b)the syntactic potential of many lexemes (at surface structure level) can serve as a guide to their deep structure configurations (Section II, Part Two);(c)provided that a dictionary makes use of a limited defining vocabulary, the texts of the dictionary definitions can be processed on the basis of correlations between syntactic structures (filled with individual lexemes or lexemes belonging to specifiable classes) and semantic relationships such as that between a process verb and an instrument (Section III).

In this article, we first discuss the inclusion of idioms in the latest printed editions of monolingual learner’s dictionaries; we then consider and evaluate the success of look-up operations in connection with the recognition of the correct part of speech. The central part of the article discusses and justifies the macro- and microstructural treatment of multi-word lexical items. Finally, we address the issue of including idioms in the microstructure as special senses of the lemma, as usage examples and/or in the idioms section. The inclusion and treatment of multi-word lexical items depends on the needs of potential dictionary users. Lexicographers should therefore strive to adopt a pragmatic approach that would help the user to locate a multi-word lexical item with minimal effort. When compiling a bilingual dictionary, contrastive differences between source and target languages should also be taken into consideration. http://dx.doi.org/10.5128/ERYa7.15

Covering over 10,000 idioms and collocations characterized by similarity in their wording or metaphorical idea which do not show corresponding similarity in their meanings, this dictionary presents a unique cross-section of the English language. Though it is designed specifically to assist readers in avoiding the use of inappropriate or erroneous phrases, the book can also be used as a regular phraseological dictionary providing definitions to individual idioms, cliches, and set expressions. Most phrases included in the dictionary are in active current use, making information about their meanings and usage essential to language learners at all levels of proficiency.

Chinese word jiaoqing, being widely used in modern Chinese, has been included in many Chinese-English dictionaries. However, the classification of the sense and its parts of speech in these dictionaries are distinguished. Based on the corpus,a thorough research is done on its usage and expected to complete the word's sense and parts of speech in the dictionaries. Furthermore, some constructive suggestions are also presented for Chinese-English dictionary compiling.
