In this paper, I present the beginnings of a resemblance theory of representation. I start by surveying the contemporary philosophical debate surrounding musical representation and reveal that its main interlocutors share a conception of artistic representation as a mode of meaningful communication. I then show how conceiving of artistic representation in this way severely limits music’s possibilities as a medium for representation. Next, I propose an alternative conception of representation that, despite its widespread acceptance outside of the philosophy of art, has been largely denigrated within it: namely, that representation fundamentally depends on structural resemblance. Finally, I demonstrate how conceiving of artistic representation as grounded upon structural resemblances, rather than as a mode of meaningful communication, provides us with a more accurate picture of both (a) how music represents and (b) how we perceive and appreciate musical representations.

Here are two obvious and widely known facts about one way films are made. First, many films are made by a process that involves two levels of representation. Actors, with the aid of sets, props, and perhaps some live special effects, act out the events the film seeks to narrate. (Call those events the story told.) And the complex events involving the actors, sets, props, and the like are themselves recorded photographically. (Call the events recorded the events filmed.) Since photographic recording and acting (supplemented by sets, special effects, and so forth) are both forms of representation, the film, or at least each of the sequences of which it is composed, is thus, in origin, the representation of a representation. It is a photographic representation of a set of events, the events filmed, that themselves represent other events, the story told. Since the latter representation clearly bears strong points of contact with that found in theater, we may as well call it theatrical representation. (That is not to assume that there aren't important differences between the two.) Let's call movies made in this way two-tier films.

Graph Theory Matrix Approach (GTMA) is moving with great speed into the main stream of computer design, Information sciences, Information and Computer programming, Artificial Intelligence and design, Artificial Intelligent and various field of research. Application of GTMA is in diverse area such as Data structures, Communication networks and their security. A Graph-based approach centres on conserving the environment of security events by breaking down factors of observable data into a graph representation of all cyber vestiges, from all data aqueducts, counting for all once and present data. For secret communication, Ciphers can be converted into graphs. The Application of Graph Theory plays a vital role in various field of Engineering and Sciences. Especially Graph theory is commonly used as a tool of encryption. In this article some survey has been work done in the field of Cryptography and Network security is given.

In the correlation calculations, people only pay attention to positive correlation;negative correlation is often overlooked.During the actual research work on pattern registration algorithm,we find that positive correlation strength-ens signal, meanwhile negative correlation can also be used to evaluate the signal.Negative correlation is a complemen-tary role for positive correlation. This paper discusses the value of the negative correlation in reliable patter registration. The experimental results in this paper show that negative correlation can suppress the noises generated in positive corre-lation processing. The high precision and reliable pattern registration has been realized.

There has been little attention paid to the notions about group and minority representation held by political elites. This study examines the arguments put forward by New Zealand parliamentarians about representation. It concentrates upon partisan attitudes towards Maori representation in the New Zealand House of Representatives and in cabinets and discusses the effects of the four seats that are reserved for Maoris. It is argued that theorists of representation have not sufficiently considered the claims of minorities to legislative representation.

Acyclic phase-type distributions are phase-type distributions with triangular matrix representations. They constitute a versatile modelling tool in many circumstances. The size of their matrix representation has a strong influence on computational efforts needed when analyzing these distributions. This representation, however, is not unique, and two representations of the same distribution can differ drastically in size. This paper explores an effective algorithm to reduce the size of the matrix representation without altering the distribution. This proceeds via a symbolic representation of the Laplace-Stieltjes transform of the phase-type distribution. The algorithm is of cubic complexity in the size of the given representation. We clarify the circumstances under which the algorithm returns a minimal representation, and discuss in how far it can keep representations minimal when they are constructed via any of three operations---convolution, minimum, and maximum. A case study modelling delay propagation in railway networks demonstrates the practicality of the approach.

Tiffany D. Barnes and Mark P. Jones provide an analysis of women’s representation in Argentina. Argentina no longer retains the title of the most successful case of women’s representation in the region. Women’s legislative representation is just over the quota threshold—33%. They point out that the country has had more female presidents than any other Latin American country but lags behind in women’s representation among subnational executives, in national and subnational cabinets, and in party leadership. Gender quotas and electoral rules explain legislative representation, while political factors and informal institutions related to party selection processes for candidate and elected leadership positions are key for executives and parties. The consequences of women’s representation in Argentina have been significant in getting women’s issues represented and increasing men’s and women’s trust in government, and political engagement of women highlights that quotas have had pros and cons for women in Argentina.

A new approach to represent assembly called state matrix representation and an algorithm for automatic robot assembly planning based on this representation is proposed. The state matrix representation of assembly is configured by the initial constraints and the goal structures. Thanks to this new representation, the planning algorithm is straightforward and can be easily and efficiently implemented with simple matrix manipulation. An example of how to plan an assembly based on this representation appears in the paper.< >

This article examines the application of different views of representation in the electoral systems at local government level: interest, corporate and mirror representation. The electoral framework underpins the process of representation, influencing both who are eligible to become voters and how their votes are collected and counted. The paper examines the interrelationship between representation and the electoral framework in local government in Victoria. We use a historical analysis, and identify a long period of interest representation; a short, relatively recent period of corporate representation; and an attempt to introduce some elements of mirror representation. We conclude by arguing that local electoral reform needs to take into account the multiple meanings of representation.
