The automatic recognition of Chinese modality’s usage is an important task for building Chinese modality knowledge base. This paper focuses on the problem of the recognition of Chinese modality’s usage for multi-corpus.It modifies the modality’s usage dictionary and the modality’s usage rules base from the real usage of Chinese modality of multi-corpus. The experiments show that the recognition precision rate of modality’s usage is higher than before and the applicability of Chinese modality knowledge base is enhanced.

Based on the theory of fuzzy language and that of modality framed in systematic functional linguistics, this paper explores the interface between hedges and modality in the aspects of definition, the overlapping words and the realization of modality, concluding that, with one being form and the other being content,a combined study on hedges and modality is of great significance and a bright future.

In the present study, a catchphrase used in a Korean shopping site and that in a Japanese counterpart were examined in order to analyze the modality used for each catchphrase, and compare its narrator’s stance and mental attitude for the behavior request.BR As a result of classifying the modality forms, it was found ten different forms of modality have been used for the Korean catchphrases. In contrast, the limited numbers of modality forms were used for the Japanese counterparts. In addition, assumed that the modality form used in a catchphrase represents its narrator’s stance, it was classified under three categories: an advertiser, a consumer, a friend, then the modality forms used by each of three stances were analyzed. Next, the strength of mental attitude for the behavior request was measured. As a result of comparing the ratios of the different modality forms used for the catchphrases, it was found that the ‘declarative modality’ with both strong and weak forms of mental attitude have been mainly used for the Korean catchphrases. On the other hand, the Japanese counterparts presented the limited numbers of modality forms used, and as for the strength of mental attitude, showed a tendency for the declarative modality with modest strength being mainly used.BR Language expression represents the language use of the period. While Japanese catchphrases stick to a passive request of behavior, Korean counterparts were found presenting the strong form, to a certain extent, of ‘evaluative modality’ as well as the weakest form of ‘hearsay modality’; In conclusion, Korean catchphrases corresponds to a consumer more dynamically and positively in accordance with the change of time.

This paper studies how interpersonal meanings of modality in College English text introductions are realized before it discusses the subjective and objective orientations of modality and its interpersonal meanings. The study shows that implicit subjective modality and implicit objective modality play an important role in the construction of interpersonal meanings of College English text introductions.

This chapter introduces to theoretical concepts of modality: von Wright's modal logic and its modifications in terms of what languages provide to give expression to modality. It is shown that modality is a future oriented notion, something that is wished, feared, forbidden, and allowed to happen in the future. Interestingly, modal verbs are highly aspect sensitive such that certain connections with lexical verbs are impossible or shifting between root modality and epistemic modality. perfective-imperfective embedding choice of modal verbs.

In this paper ,modality construed as a pragmatic notion, is classified into two categories with respect to markedness: unmarked modality and marked modality. The latter is further divided into strong modality, neutral modality and weak modality. Based on this classification, a variety of marked expressions indicating modality are examined. In conclusion, this essay argues that there are still many problems with the conventional classification of modality, which requires re-examination

Natural language processing (NLP) is an area of machine learning that has garnered a lot of attention in recent days due to the revolution in artificial intelligence, robotics, and smart devices. NLP focuses on training machines to understand and analyze various languages, extract meaningful information from those, translate from one language to another, correct grammar, predict the next word, complete a sentence, or even generate a completely new sentence from an existing corpus. A major challenge in NLP lies in training the model for obtaining high prediction accuracy since training needs a vast dataset. For widely used languages like English, there are many datasets available that can be used for NLP tasks like training a model and summarization but for languages like Bengali, which is only spoken primarily in South Asia, there is a dearth of big datasets which can be used to build a robust machine learning model. Therefore, NLP researchers who mainly work with the Bengali language will find an extensive, robust dataset incredibly useful for their NLP tasks involving the Bengali language. With this pressing issue in mind, this research work has prepared a dataset whose content is curated from social media, blogs, newspapers, wiki pages, and other similar resources. The amount of samples in this dataset is 19132010, and the length varies from 3 to 512 words. This dataset can easily be used to build any unsupervised machine learning model with an aim to performing necessary NLP tasks involving the Bengali language. Also, this research work is releasing two preprocessed version of this dataset that is especially suited for training both core machine learning-based and statistical-based model. As very few attempts have been made in this domain, keeping Bengali language researchers in mind, it is believed that the proposed dataset will significantly contribute to the Bengali machine learning and NLP community.

The article investigates the modality of verbs, words, expressions, and the methodology of teaching them in the auditorium. First of all, the author gives some information about the category of modality. She states the opinions of different scientists about the modality in different languages. For instance, the names of the scientists who investigated the category of modality such as O. Musayev, F. Jahangirov, I. Crilova, Y. Slinin, Y. Zvereva, I. Rickman and others have been referred to in the article. She gives the division of the modal verbs according to O. Musayev’s classification in the English language. They are: primary modal verbs, and secondary modal verbs. Each of these modal verbs has been analyzed through the examples by the author. Besides modal verbs, there are words, expressions which can express modality too. These facts are also stated in the article. The author considers it noteworthy to mention that the usage of modality of words, expressions is not generally found in the textbooks which are studied in the auditorium of Azerbaijani students. For this reason this usage of modality is considered to be challenging by the students as they don’t have much information about them. So, she gives the methodology of teaching modality in the auditorium. The methodology can be helpful for the lecturers to teach the category of modality. The examples used by the author can illustrate the exact model of the modal words, expressions, etc.

In functional grammar, modality is not only limited to traditional modal verbs. It can also be expressed in other forms.According to functional grammar theory, the problems should be studied, such as modal space, types of modality, modal commitment, modal responsibility and modalisation of certain verbs, broadening the ways of expressing modality. The purpose is to make readers know more about modality in English, identifying objective laws of applying a language properly.
