Under general geological study of exploratory development of coalbed gas and underground gasification of coal bed in eastern depression of Liaohe basin,authors apply the basic principle of coal geology and the data of vitrinite reflectance and technical analysis of coal to ascertain that coal classification are dominantely the lignite,long-flame coal and gas coal of coal-bearing upper section of third member of Shahejie Formation.And then dissertate the variational regularity between coal rank and buried depth in vertical and otherness of vertical limit of coal rank in different coal-rich regions.The results show that the long-flame coal distributs in the six coal-rich regions,the lignite distributs in southwest and north central region and gas coal distributs in south central of eastern depression on plane.At last it is pointed out that the regional geothermal field and volcanic activity control the spatial distribution of coal rank.

In view of so many sorts of coking coal,reasonless coal rank structure and so on,Morningsun Coalification made measurement analysis and comprehensive evaluation for the quality indexes of every coal rank from different coalmine and took optimization management measures for stabilizing the quality of used coal such as purchasing on demand,storing by class and quality bulletins.Then the quality demand of the coal and coke was met and the aim of reducing used coal cost was reached.

This paper has studied the pyrolysis kinetics characteristics of Chinese typical steam coals by thermo-gravimetry analysis method, The pyrolysis activate energy and pyrolysis characteristic temperature of coal has been discussed and analysed. The conclusion showed that the total weight loss reduced and the typical pyrolysis temperatures increased with increasing of coal rank during coal pyrolysis. Because more alkyl fuctional group and bridge bonds exist in medium rank coals,their DTG curvers have heaviest weight loss peaks.During the main reaction stage, the medium rank coals had higher activation energies, the low and high rank coals had lower activation energies.

This chapter deals with coalification, coal quality, and the classification of coal. The degree of diagenesis or coalification that a coal has undergone by burial and tectonic effect determines the coal rank. The term brown coal is used for low-rank coals, such as lignite and subbituminous coal, and black or hard coal is used for coals of higher rank; that is, the bituminous, semianthracite, and anthracite coals. The quality of a coal is determined by the make-up of the original maceral and mineral matter content of the coal, and its degree of coalification (rank). The chapter provides an outline of the fundamental chemical and physical properties of coal and what they mean in terms of the coal's usability. Several classifications are in common usage, which classify both humic and brown coals, and refer to particular parameters.
