    Abstract:
    The largest growth in water usage among water-using industries has been in agriculture due to the growing need for agricultural goods to feed the world's expanding population. Presently, agricultural water conservation encompasses a range of technologies that are mostly grounded in human understanding, but also include a number of complex strategies that significantly rely on cutting-edge mechanical and electrical techniques. Modern agronomic practices like precision agriculture may conserve water. Precision agriculture is a modern agronomic strategy that may preserve water.Modern agricultural investments, land transfers, and urbanisation have left these irregular and traditionally built villages with an ambiguous and ever-changing land use pattern. This may hinder water-saving adoption. In addition to taking into account the growth of the agricultural sector, the agricultural water management policy prioritises the long-term ecological economy and the sustainability of the water resource supply network. Water needs are predicted to rise significantly by the end of the twenty-first century, particularly for irrigation. Reducing the amount of water used in agriculture is crucial. With temperatures rising and droughts occurring more frequently in many nations, water is a vital component of agricultural output. Certain technology-based practices coupled with efficient farmers and humans management of water resources will be the key features for improving water conservation.

    Conservation agriculture is a set of practices widely promoted to increase agricultural productivity while conserving soil through reduced tillage, mulching and crop rotation. Adoption levels are low across southern Africa and farmers often use only some components on small portions of their land. This study uses in-depth interviews and partial budget analysis to explore adoption of conservation agriculture in Mozambique's Angonia highlands. Farmers described many benefits but there was little sign of adoption beyond plots where non-governmental organizations promoting conservation agriculture had provided inputs. Most farmers were adamant that conservation agriculture could perform better than conventional agriculture only if they applied fertilizer or compost. With current costs and prices, conservation agriculture is unprofitable except on small plots for farmers with low opportunity cost of household labour. These findings suggest that conservation agriculture can improve maize yields but capital and labour constraints limit adoption to small plots in the absence of free or subsidized inputs. Given the current ranges of prices for grain and inputs these manual forms of conservation agriculture will not be adopted on a large scale in Angonia. Nevertheless, small conservation agriculture plots can provide farmers with high yields where constraints are lowest.

    Following the adoption of its first Comprehensive State-wide Water Management Plan in early February 2008, Georgia is on course to drafting regionally-based water development and conservation plans. Conservation tillage-based crop production can be one of the management tools available toward achieving the goals of the plan and should be considered. In addition, enhanced research support is required to develop conservation tillage management practices tailored to specific crop production systems by region.     This chapter reviews practices developed through the years and comments on their effectiveness for conserving water and achieving greater or more reliable crop production. The principles of water conservation for agriculture, namely, that water must be captured, retained, and used efficiently for producing a desirable yield, have not changed during the past 100 years. Although much progress has been made, much water potentially available for agricultural uses is not effectively conserved in many cases. With increasing demands for water by other users and the need for increased agricultural production, it is imperative that continued efforts be made to conserve and use the water supplies effectively and more efficiently. The chapter lists and briefly comments on some challenges and opportunities for achieving improved water conservation for agriculture. It develops techniques for reducing crop residue decomposition and considers the impacts of ethanol and biofuel production.

    Conservation agriculture technologies have been extensively promoted to mitigate against drought as well as improve agriculture productivity for over a decade. Despite the extensive extension and investment Conservation agriculture technologies have been less widely adopted by farmers in Swaziland. Low adoption and lack of continued use of adapted and improved agricultural production technologies amongst farmers has been identified as one of the main reasons for the low agricultural productivity in the country. There is no in-depth analysis of the determinants of Conservation agriculture adoption, this study therefore assessed factors that influenced adoption and continued use of conservation agriculture in the Lowveld agro ecological region of Swaziland Results from 200 farming households practicing conservation agriculture indicated farmer characteristics such as age, gender, levels of education, extension and wealth influence adoption of Conservation agriculture. Likewise, the linear regression model results show that if the household head had some form of education, there were three times more likely to adopt conservation agriculture than a household head without any form of education. As the number of people contributing to agricultural labour increased households there was a 165% chance that these households were more likely to adopt conservation agriculture. Knowing factors that influence adoption will allow development of strategies, policies and plans that take advantage if the main influences of adoption so as to increase adoption and sustainability of use of Conservation agriculture.     The present situation of water resource shortage in Baojixia irrigation areas is very severe, therefore, to use the hydraulic conservation projects efficiently is very important to increase the supply of irrigation water. Based on the theory of decomposition-coordination for large-scale systems, the optimal model has been set up to achieve the maximum supply and minimum surplus for utilizing water resources in the reservoirs in Baojixia irrigation areas.

    This chapter enumerates the short-, medium-, and long-term benefits of conservation agriculture. The chapter also presents the three fundamental principles of conservation farming and explains why each is important: (1) reduced or no-tillage; (2) soil cover/crop residue recycling; and (3) diversified cropping. These principles, and the practices involved in each, should be viewed as an integrated unit to be implemented simultaneously. Conservation agriculture is a systemic practice: each element functions best as part of a whole. Partial adoption of conservation agriculture practices can yield unpredictable results.

    The irrigation district of Yellow River in Ningxia had been in the habit of over irrigation and over drain,which caused bad results such as low water use efficiency,soil salinization and deterioration of water environment.Based on analyzing the status quo and existing problems of the water-saving irrigation practices in the Yellow River irrigation district in Ningxia,this paper proposed a comprehensive water-saving technical system suitable to the locality,namely as rational development and use of water resources,water-saving irrigation engineering,water-saving techniques in farming along with water-saving management.Meanwhile we farther put forward the integration and demonstration of modern water-saving and agricultural technologies that should be the key research points in accordance with the developing object of water-saving irrigation in the Yellow River irrigation district in Ningxia.
