Abstract:
Aims: This study aims to formulate at least one efficient biostimulant based on actinomycetes that promotes good eggplant growth in Mali. Study Design: The experimental design was a completely randomized block design with three replications and four treatments randomly distributed. The treatments were three Actinomycete strains (Act, S1 and St1) and a non inoculated control and the mode of application (inoculation or spraying) of these treatments were considered as blocking factor. Place and Duration of Study: The trials were conducted in Bamako, in the Greenhouse of the LaboREM-Biotech situated on the colline of Badalabougou. Methodology: Eggplant seeds inoculated or not with Actinomyces sp. Ts1, Actinomyces sp. S1 and Actinomyces sp. Act; were randomly sown in plastic pots filled with approximately 2.50 kg of air-dried soil. The first block sown with coated seeds and the second with non-inoculated seeds and seedlings from them pulverized. Leaf length, leaf area, leaf diameter, leaf area, leaf fresh weight, leaf dry weight, root fresh weight, root dry weight, plant height and root length were determined. Results: Eggplant seed inoculated with all the tested Actinomycetes strains had significantly enhanced leaf length, leaf diameter, leaf area, leaves fresh weight. The highest results were obtained with the strain Act, followed by strain St1. Sprayed treatment improved eggplant leaf length, leaf diameter, leaf area, leaves fresh weight, leaves dry weight, root fresh weight, root dry weight; compared to the coated treatment Conclusion: Field application of actinomyctes may reduce production cost, by increasing eggplant growth and fruit yield while reducing production cost. The present work showed that Act and Ts1 using spray method were best suited for eggplant. Actinomyces sp. Act produced the highest leaf length, leaf diameter, leaf area, leaves fresh weight. Therefore, Actinomyces sp. Act is suggested as bioinoculant for eggplant. Keywords:

A study was undertaken to estimate the magnitude of heterosis for fruit yield and yield contributing components in brinjal using twenty-eight brinjal hybrids obtained from half-diallel of eight elite genotypes were evaluated along with their parents and standard check GJBH-4 during Late kharif 2022-23 (E1), Rabi 2022-23 (E2) and Early Rabi 2023-24 (E3) at the Instructional Farm, Jambuvadi, College of Horticulture, J.A.U, Junagadh. Appreciable magnitude of heterosis was observed for heterobeltiosis and standard heterosis for number of primary branches, fruit length (cm), fruit diameter (cm), fruit weight (g), number of fruits per plant and fruit yield per plant (kg) studied in desirable direction. Among all the 28 crosses, thirteen and nine crosses manifested significant and positive heterobeltiosis in E2 and E3, respectively. The top most heterobeltiosis was exhibited by JBR-20-01 x JBR-20-11 (22.78%) in E1; JBR-21-14 x JBL-21-09 (67.70%) in E2 and JBL-21-12 x JBL-21-09 (65.10%) in E3. The significant and positive standard heterosis for fruit yield per plant was recorded in eight and four crosses in E2 and E3, respectively. The highest economic heterosis was exhibited up to 4.37% by cross JBL-21-12 x JBL-21-10 in E1; 56.02% by cross JBL-21-09 x JBL-21-10 in E2; and 54.15% by cross JBL-21-09 x JBL-21-10 in E3. The present study reveals good scope for isolation of pure lines from the progenies of segregating materials as well as commercial exploitation of heterosis in brinjal.

The study aims to investigate the phytotoxic influence on seed germination and biochemical changes of two Solanceace family crops Solanum lycopersicum L. and Solanum melongena L. with different concentrations (20%, 15%, 10%, 5%, 2%) of aqueous leaf extract of Tectona grandis L. The effect of different concentrations of teak leaf extract was compared with control(water).Decreased germination percentage, shoot, and radicle length of the crops were observed to be concentration dependent. All the different extract concentrations caused an inhibitory and stimulatory effect on the crops' germination and morphogenesis compared to control.Biochemical changes and Phytochemical screening of the T. grandis leaf extract were equally determined.By this treatment, S. lycopersicum showed a more inhibitory effect than S. melongena.

Mahalanobis’s D2 statistics was used to study genetic divergence for nineteen characters in a collection of forty four brinjal genotypes. The 44 genotypes of brinjal were grouped into seven clusters on the basis of relative magnitude of D2 values. The maximum inter cluster distance was observed between clusters III and VII, while minimum was recorded between clusters III and IV. The maximum contribution towards divergence was from yield per plant and number of fruits per cluster. Considering cluster means and genetic distances, selection of parents from clusters III and VII for hybridization programme would help in achieving novel recombinants.
