Leaf growth patterns were studied in three pairs of evergreen and deciduous species, occuiring at an elevation of 2025-2150 m in the Kumaon Himalaya. Leaf initiation occurred earlier in evergreens with an exception of Litsea umbrosa . Peak leaf pool size was attained earlier in deciduous species (June to early July), while later (October) in evergreen species. Rate of leaf expansion was higher in deciduous species. Specific leaf mass in the initial period was higher in evergreen species than in deciduous species. Leaf area was higher in deciduous species as compared to evergreen species, while root length/leaf area unit was greater in evergreen species.

In this paper,we analyzed the application of the feasibility of the evergreen plants in the gardens of Guanzhong Area, and then pointed out several issues that the application of evergreen plants in Guanzhong Area.About some evergreen plants were proposed, which are suitable for the application in the gardens of the Guanzhong area, including 20 evergreen trees,66 evergreen shrubs,12 herbs,16 fujimotos and 25 bamboos.

We analyzed the ratio of evergreen to deciduous trees in eight urban parks based on the landscape plant resources survey of Beijing. The results show that the ratio and projected area ratio of evergreen to deciduous trees among the eight urban parks were different because of different characteristics of parks. But the ratio of evergreen to deciduous trees was mainly below 1∶1 with an average ratio of 1∶3, and the ratio of projected area was 1∶2, indicating that there are more deciduous trees than evergreen trees in urban parks, and the change of seasonal phase is obvious.

Evergreen forests of Western Ghats show higher phylogenetic diversity (PD) than deciduous forests indicating more recent establishment of the latter. The evergreen forests show a latitudinal gradient of high PD in south and lower in north, supporting Southern Refugia Hypothesis. Evergreen and deciduous forests exhibit shared evolutionary histories indicating high turnover within clades and shifts between evergreen and deciduous traits.

Preliminary studies on flowering of the evergreen Platanus orientalis, were based on observations on some of the naturally growing evergreen planes in the island of Crete, on seedlings originated from artificial selfing of evergreen, as well as, on ramets produced from naturally growing evergreen trees. Flowering of the evergreen planes has special morphological and seasonal characteristics: Most of the evergreens flower continually during autumn and winter with a pause of flower production in late June-July; few evergreen planes were found to deviate from this flowering pattern, some producing very few flowers in winter and others being sterile. Partial overlap of evergreen and deciduous flowering takes place in spring. The population of the evergreen planes in Crete, though of limited size since antiquity, continuous to exist and naturally growing evergreen young seedlings, have been discovered. Although there are indications that ecological and seasonal factors, as well as, internal physiological ones, operate as obstacles for the natural reproduction of evergreen planes, it is assumed that, natural hzbridization among evergreens in winter, as well as, natural hybridization among evergreens and deciduous, takes place to the certain extent

Study was made on C,N,P content in leaf of evergreen and deciduous trees in evergreen broad-leaved forest at E’mei Mountain,Sichuan province and relationship among them. The result showed that mean content of C,N,P in evergreen species was respectively 42.30%,1.46% and 0.10%,while that in deciduous one was 41.078%,1.59% and 0.12%.N content in the tested forest leaves had close relation with P content, while no evident relation between C and N,C and P.The average N and P ratio in leaf from evergreen species was 14.48 and 13.61 from deciduous ones, indicating low adaptive faculty to local ecological environment.

The landscape of evergreen plant in the main parks and street greenbelts were investigated and made photos in urban districts and Binhai New Area,Tianjin. The landscape in winter and summer were evaluated by using SBE(Scenic Beauty Estimation)method,in order to provide a reference for evergreen plant landscape design in Northern China garden. The results showed that the main factor affecting evergreen plant landscape in summer were ornamental color number, plant color contrast, evergreen plant shape, evergreen vs deciduous ratio;the main factors affecting the winter evergreen plant landscape were evergreen vs deciduous ratio, artificial facilities such as road and stone, evergreen tree species shape, plant growth etc.
