Abstract:
Abstract Full iron tailings concrete can effectively use iron tailings as the raw materials of concrete. This paper used iron tailings powder, iron tailings sand and iron tailing gravel to replace fly ash, river sand, and ordinary gravel as concrete admixtures, fine and coarse aggregates, respectively. The orthogonal experimental method was used to optimize the mix proportion of C40 strength grade full iron tailings concrete. Research results showed that the optimal mix proportions of C40 strength grade full iron tailings concrete was water cement ratio 0.34, sand ratio 39%, and water reducing agent 0.4%.Comprehensive utilization of tailings resources is important.Compared with foreign countries,tailings utilization speed in China is slower,and tailings resources are dominantly used in filling mined empty area.According to estimation and analysis of tailings resources economic performance in China,the tailings quantities that can be recovered and reprocessed only occupy 15% of total tailings quantities.The main utilization mode of tailings resources in the future in China will be tailings reprocessing,being used as building materials,and being used in filling mined empty area.The economic policy about tailings utilization should be adjusted to resolve environmental problems of tailings resources.

At OMINE Mine (RASA Industries Co. Ltd., IWATEKEN, JAPAN), the culture experiments of rice were carried out with flotation tailings for the purpose of utilizing the tailings. The results of the experiments during some years showed that OMINE flotation tailings promoted good harvesting of rice when mixed with soil. And it was found that the physical properties (grain size distribution and water hold capacity, etc.) and chemical constituents (SiO2, Fe, etc.) of the tailings are suitable for admixturing and neutrizing the soil of this area. More over, it can be said that the clear effluent from the tailings dam is helpful for culturing rice, because it is weakly alkaline (i. e, making fertilizer water-soluble) and about 10°C higher than natural irrigated water (i, e. fostering the growth of rice).

There were two tailings dam in Hong Toushuan Copper mine,which stored 3 million tons tailings and increased 100,000 tons tailings per year,chief sulphide were prrite and pyrrhotite in the tailings.Capitalizing tailing resources and sulphur of the tailings was recovered,three samples of the tailings were studied to recover sulphur of the tailings.at last,sulphur of non-oxidated parts of new tailing was recovered.Sulphur grade was 6.11%in the tailing,without grinted,the result of the closed circuit experiment follows: sulphur concentrate grade was 44.52%,the recovery was 81.99%.considering the undulation of the tailings,it estimated that sulphur concentrate grade was 36%,the recovery was 50%.If the plant was built which treated 1 000 t/d,it could obtaine 158,000 yuan per year.

The hot water process used to extract bitumen from the oil sands in northern Alberta produce an alkaline tailings stream containing sand, clays, residual bitumen, and small amounts of soluble organic compounds. The suspension formed by the fine clay minerals has proven to be resistant to consolidation, leaving a growing pool of persistent sludge in large tailings ponds. An introduction is provided to the literature that exists in the area of oil sand tailings characterization and treatment. Studies on the chemical, physical, and microbiological makeup of oil sands tailings and the tailings ponds are described, including settling and consolidation behavior of solids in tailings ponds and various theories as to why tailings pond sludge is so resistant to consolidation. Studies undertaken to reduce the tailings problem are reviewed, including investigation of reclamation methods for the mine site, and chemical, physical, geotechnical and biotechnical approaches to tailings treatment. Finally, there is a brief discussion of tailings problems in other industries and the methods used to try to alleviate those problems. 275 refs., 5 figs., 12 tabs.

Abstract Combined with the particle size classification of the tailings pond, according to the corresponding laws and regulations of the safe production process, the tailings pond is identified and analyzed from four aspects: human, material, environment and management. From the source, the possible harmful factors in the tailings pond are pointed out, which will provide reference for the safe and effective operation of the tailings pond in the future.
