Abstract:
Abstract Background Evidence synthesis in the field of occupational safety and health (OSH) has been continuously growing over the last two decades. With over 100 systematic reviews now published, the Cochrane Work Review group has played an important role in this development and the Cochrane Thematic Group ‘Work & Health & Social Security’ was established recently to combine evidence from both the OSH and insurance medicine fields. Worldwide, many organizations produce and synthesize evidence in OSH that can complement and support each other. We believe that a global network including Cochrane and others can collaborate on methods development and in the production, synthesis, use and dissemination of different types of evidence even more effectively. Aims To determine if establishing a global network for evidence synthesis in OSH is feasible. Methods We conducted a survey of international and national institutions between November 2022 and January 2023 using LimeSurvey. Participants included representatives of affiliated and sustaining members of the International Commission on Occupational Health, national institutes for OSH, academia and other international organizations. Results From 151 invitations, we received responses from 57 representatives of 54 organizations. Representatives reported that their organization will contribute financially on an annual basis (n = 1) or provide in-kind support (n = 10), and will probably be able to provide financial or in-kind support (n = 25). Conclusions The feasibility criterion was met and an international network is being established. Keywords:

Some regard the Jali Commission as another expensive exercise aimed at making recommendations that have little effect. To many South Africans, the Grootvlei video on prison corruption televised nationally this year, was the beginning of a revelation. But would this video have seen the light of day if the Jali Commission did not exist? And would there have been a specialised unit to investigate corruption, had the commission not been there? It is likely that the Jali Commission has indeed changed the way in which commissions of this kind are perceived.

Comparison of search strategies in systematic reviews of adverse effects to other systematic reviews
Abstract Background Research indicates that the methods used to identify data for systematic reviews of adverse effects may need to differ from other systematic reviews. Objectives To compare search methods in systematic reviews of adverse effects with other reviews. Methods The search methodologies in 849 systematic reviews of adverse effects were compared with other reviews. Results Poor reporting of search strategies is apparent in both systematic reviews of adverse effects and other types of systematic reviews. Systematic reviews of adverse effects are less likely to restrict their searches to MEDLINE or include only randomised controlled trials ( RCT s). The use of other databases is largely dependent on the topic area and the year the review was conducted, with more databases searched in more recent reviews. Adverse effects search terms are used by 72% of reviews and despite recommendations only two reviews report using floating subheadings. Conclusions The poor reporting of search strategies in systematic reviews is universal, as is the dominance of searching MEDLINE . However, reviews of adverse effects are more likely to include a range of study designs (not just RCT s) and search beyond MEDLINE .

My reflections on the Gold Commission deal with four subjects. First, I describe the establishment of the Commission, covering both its political background and the economic views of the sponsors. Second, I give some consideration to the purpose the Commissicvn was designed to serve, as viewed by its sponsors. Both the size and composition of the Commission provide clues to be analyzed in this connection. I then consider what the sponsors gained from the Commission's recommendations and the minority report. I conclude with some speculations about the likely impact of the Commission's Report.

In this article, we describe the strengths and weaknesses of several methods of locating systematic reviews, including electronic databases such as MEDLINE, Best Evidence (the electronic version of ACP Journal Club and Evidence-Based Medicine), and the Cochrane Library (a regularly updated source of reviews and controlled trials produced by the Cochrane Collaboration). We also present steps that can be used to critically appraise review articles; as an example, we use a systematic review that evaluates the gastrointestinal toxicity of various nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in the context of a clinical scenario.

The article highlights the research issues of the legal status of the commission on labor disputes in terms of the current legislation of Ukraine. The author provides a general description of the commission on labor disputes, its features and functions, investigates the range of issues to be considered by such a commission, and describes the procedure for their consideration. Based on the general characteristics of the legal status of the commission on labor disputes, the author analyzes the challenges facing the commission in modern conditions. The main problems of the commission on labor disputes functioning include: the imperfection of the legal status of it, in particular, the powers of the commission on labor disputes; lack of a parity approach to the formation of the commission on labor disputes, taking into account both the interests of employees and the employer; the imperfection of the procedure for consideration of labor disputes; lack of a clearly defined procedure for appealing the decision of the commission on labor disputes and the liability for failure to establish a commission on labor disputes. Prospects for the commission on labor disputes further functioning as a pre-trial method of protection of labor rights of employees are suggested. The author substantiates the ways to improve the legislation governing the legal status and functioning of the commission on labor disputes. The main directions of improving this commission functioning are: increasing the efficiency of the commission activity, taking into account the interests of employees and employers; development of the commission on labor disputes as a pre-trial body, which must be formed on a parity basis, granting employees and the employer equal participation in resolving labor disputes; determination of the requirements for the commission members (level of education, work experience, specialization, etc.); introduction of a unified system in terms of which the commission on labor disputes could make legal decisions; defining liability for failure to create a commission on labor disputes. The author concludes that if the current legislation of Ukraine is reformed in part of the legal status and functions of the commissions on labor disputes, their activities will become more efficient in modern conditions, and this will promote resolving individual labor disputes and protecting labor rights more effectively.

The NHS's new complaints system is buckling under massive pressure. The Healthcare Commission is facing a backlog of more than 3,700 grievances and a private company will be brought in next week to help clear the build-up. The commission expects to receive 9,000 complaints by the end of its first year--almost double the number anticipated.
