Abstract:
Abstract We examined whether mimicking an interaction partner is universally advantageous or, provided the mimicry is particularly strong, whether it has detrimental impacts on interpersonal and negotiation outcomes. Participants interacted with a confederate who engaged in no, subtle, or strong mimicry and then negotiated. In laboratory Experiment 1 ( N = 71) and Experiment 2 ( N = 149), subtly (vs. not) mimicked participants liked the confederate more, while strongly (vs. subtly) mimicked participants liked and trusted less. In Experiment 2, strongly (vs. subtly) mimicked participants were less susceptible to the first-offer anchor. The online Experiment 3 ( N = 180) corroborated the too-much-mimicry effect: When participants became aware of mimicry, it exerted detrimental effects on liking and trust irrespective of the experimental condition. Experiment 1 and Experiment 3 found no too-much-mimicry effect on anchoring susceptibility. These findings show that (a) sufficiently subtle mimicry positively influences interpersonal outcomes and (b) too much mimicry backfires.This paper summarises the both common types and recently discovered form of insect mimicry. Special attention had been paid to the chemical mimicry, light mimicry, sound mimicry, mimicry polymorphism and complex. The biological significance of insect mimicry is briefly discussed.

Protective mimicry has been studied extensively for over a century. Mimicry in a competitive context, however, has remained largely neglected. It has been overlooked in mimicry classification schemes, and few systems have been rigorously studied. We define "competitive mimicry" as mimicry that enables access to a defended resource or aids in defense of a resource. We explain how competitive mimicry fits with existing mimicry classification schemes and outline criteria for identifying competitive mimicry systems. For each form of competitive mimicry, we describe the effects of the mimic on the model and receiver, predict the evolutionary dynamics of the system, and present examples. We then identify key directions for the study of competitive mimicry.

The goal of this study is to analyse the use of mimicry in Nigerian stand-up comedy. Mimicry is conceived as a strategy in the routines of Nigerian stand-up comedians, who adopt two kinds of mimicry acts: verbal and nonverbal. For comedians to use mimicry, they have to draw from collective beliefs they share with their audience. On their part, the audience find a mimicry act humorous because it relates to their background assumptions. Data for analysis comprised four routines of four Nigerian stand-up comedians purposively selected because of the comics' extensive use of mimicry. Mimicry activates background assumptions, distorts the collective representation of the target and could be used for articulating voice in stand-up performances.

The present study examined the relationship between changes in couples' perceptions of each other during a conflictual interaction and their mode of conflict resolution. Thirty-three volunteer married couples were videotaped while recreating a conflictual interaction that had occurred previously. During a subsequent replaying of the videotape, husbands' and wives' verbal descriptions of perceptions of self and spouse were elicited at three different stages of the conflict, using a method for eliciting perceptions derived from Laing. Phillipson, and Lee's multiperspective interpersonal perception technique. The interpersonal perceptions of couples who resolved the conflict by engaging the issue at hand were contrasted with those of couples who resolved the conflict via avoidance. Statistically significant differences were found between the groups, suggesting that engaging the issue was associated with an increase in spouses' access to one another's interpersonal perceptions, whereas avoidance was associated with decreases in consensually valid perceptions. Substantive and methodological implications of the study are discussed.

Abstract Subjects rated how likely they would be to use threats and promises to resolve interpersonal, intergroup, and international conflicts. Threats were rated as more likely to be employed in intergroup and international than in interpersonal disputes; promises were rated as more likely to be employed in interpersonal than in intergroup or international disputes. Questions dealing with subjects' general impressions regarding type of conflict revealed that subjects differed in their perceptions of interpersonal and intergroup conflicts. For example, interpersonal disputes were seen as being safer than intergroup or international disputes. In addition, subjects differed in their perceptions of intergroup and international conflict; subjects thought it was more important to do well, use strength, and employ physical force in international conflict than in intergroup or interpersonal conflict. The results are discussed in terms of the group schema hypothesis, and a recommendation is made for researchers to make a distinction between intergroup and interpersonal conflict.

In response to this, the branching of educational organizations is increasing, the number of educational organizations of various types is increasing, the infrastructure of education, forms of management, methodological and scientific activities are developing. Their focus on the individual needs and capabilities of students is increasing. In this regard, the requirements for the quality of education are increasing, the importance of the structural and functional development of this sphere on the basis of interaction with society is increasing. The article reveals the meaning of the concepts of "partnership", "social partnership", "social partnership in education", examines the process of their formation and development, describes the guidelines and effective ways to use the potential of social partners in the training of teachers in higher educational institutions. Abstract Of all the floral mimicry systems covered in this book, oviposition-site mimicry is probably the most widespread (in terms of geography and the number of plant species and lineages represented) and the most diverse (in terms of floral signals). It is also the most under-appreciated system of floral mimicry and is certainly less well known than floral sexual mimicry. The widespread phenomenon of floral oviposition-site mimicry includes mimicry of fruit, carrion, feces and fungal substrates that are used by insects as brood sites. Chemical signals are key in all of these systems, but there is also evidence for combined effects of chemical and visual signals (in other words multimodal signals).
