Strategies to Embed Human Values in Agriculture Mobile Apps: What Do End-Users and Practitioners Think?

Abstract:
Given the ubiquity of mobile apps in daily lives, understanding and reflecting end-users’ human values (e.g., transparency, privacy) in apps has become increasingly important. Violations of end users’ values by software applications have resulted in a wide range of difficulties for end users. Value violations may bring more and lasting problems for marginalized groups of end-users. This research aims to understand the extent to which Bangladeshi female farmers' values, marginalized and vulnerable end-users, who are less studied by the software engineering community, are reflected in agriculture apps in Bangladesh. Further to this, we aim to identify possible strategies to embed their values in those apps. To this end, we conducted a mixed-methods empirical study consisting of 13 interviews with app practitioners and focus groups with 20 Bangladeshi female farmers. The accumulated results from the interviews and focus groups identified 22 values of Bangladeshi female farmers, which the participants expect to be reflected in the agriculture apps. Among these 22 values, 15 values (e.g., accuracy) are already reflected and 7 values (e.g., accessibility) are ignored/violated in the existing agriculture apps. We also identified 14 strategies (e.g., “applying human-centered approaches to elicit values”) to address Bangladeshi female farmers’ values in agriculture apps.Keywords:

Implementing agricultural product brand strategy is an inevitable choice for developing modern agriculture and participating in international competition. Hubei is a large agricultural province, but the overall strength of agricultural enterprises is weak; brand awareness is weak; and it lack of well-known agricultural product brands, and the development of agricultural products processing industry lags behind, which directly restricts brand creation. Hubei agricultural development must establish brand awareness, rely on local resources, highlight local characteristics to develop relevant brands, and vigorously promote standardized production of agricultural products, consolidate the quality foundation of branded agricultural products, improve brand technology content, and continuously enhance brand added value.

Based on agricultural industry cluster,regional brands of agricultural products are formed.The agricultural industry cluster is also an effective way to increase regional brand value of agricultural products and to enhance the competitiveness of the brands.From the perspectives of agricultural research institutes,agricultural services agencies,agriculture-related administrative departments and agricultural enterprises,this thesis explores the internal mechanism though which the agricultural industry cluster enhances the competitiveness of regional brands of agricultural products.On this basis,it puts forward some strategies which are based on the agricultural industry clusters to enhance the competitiveness of agricultural products,such as transferring the regional brands of agricultural products to corporate brand,establishing interaction mechanisms of government,production,study and research,implementing the strategy of agricultural region brand umbrella and improving scientific and technological content of regional brands,thereby to increase the value of brand assets.

Mobile apps are increasingly jeopardizing app users' online privacy by collecting, storing, and sharing personal data disclosed via apps. However, little is known about mobile app users' current privacy protection behavior and the factors that motivate it. Drawing on Roger's Protection Motivation Theory (PMT), this study develops and tests the App Privacy Protection Model among 1,593 Western European app users. The results demonstrate that, on the one hand, increased levels of perceived self‐efficacy, vulnerability, and privacy concern enhance mobile app users' motivation to engage in risk‐reducing behavior, while on the other hand, higher levels of knowledge of the data collection practices of mobile apps, app attitude, and perceived response costs diminish it. Being the first study that applies PMT in the mobile app context, this study offers several important implications regarding privacy protection in mobile apps.

With the creation of resource-saving and environment-friendly social goals, the focus on agro-ecological environmental protection and sustainable agricultural development has also increased. Jilin Province belongs to China's agricultural province and has the advantage of agricultural resources. The creation of agricultural product brands has obvious resource advantages and environmental advantages. However, under the national three rural support policy, the brand competitiveness of agricultural products is still insufficient, lacking Internet thinking, and under the background of green development and ecological protection, the new business model of e-commerce has not been fully utilized to highlight Jilin Province. The resource advantages of agricultural brands and regional characteristics. To this end, the paper analyzes the intrinsic relationship between agro-ecological environmental protection and the sustainable development of agricultural products in Jilin Province under the background of agricultural green economy environment, and proposes development strategies and suggestions on how to strengthen the competitiveness of agricultural products e-commerce brand in Jilin Province. It can promote the agricultural products of Jilin Province to go abroad and go global, promote the sustainable development of agricultural production, and enhance the competitiveness of agricultural products and e-commerce brands in Jilin Province.

Small farms, which are mostly owned by natural persons, characterize the agricultural sector of Serbia. In order for a family farm business or holding to be successful, the following factors can be distinguished: the yield and quality of the products achieved, the prices generated for the products, and, of course, the decisions that are made in order to make the management of the farm more efficient. Given that consumers of agricultural products around the world are demanding increasing product quality, farms should work to improve competitiveness based on quality. The subject of this paper is the importance of the quality of the products for the sustainable success of agricultural holdings in the Republic of Serbia. The main goal of this paper is to provide new knowledge in the field of quality of agricultural products of agricultural holdings with the aim of achieving sustainable success.

This paper investigates the Android permission system and its adequacy in alerting end-users of potential information privacy risks in an app. When an end-user seeks to install an app, they are presented with the required permissions and make a supposedly informed decision as to whether to install that app based on the permissions presented. The results from an analysis of ten popular apps indicate a number of permissions that pose potential information privacy risks of which most end-users are likely to be unaware. The Android permission system is complex and difficult for end-users to comprehend and effectively evaluate the potential information privacy and security risks in an app. Most end-users will install the app without evaluating the list of required permissions presented to them. Furthermore there is an inconsistent approach to informing end-users about the privacy policy and terms of use for Android apps. The findings of this paper indicate a need for better decision support apps so end-users can more easily make better decisions regarding privacy and security protection provided by apps. Future research should also examine the free market failure of mobile application market places to provide adequate privacy protection and the need for stronger privacy protection laws.
