Abstract:
We report a new Au-Ga-Ce 1/1 approximant crystal (AC) which possesses a significantly wide single-phase region of 53 - 70 at% Au and 13.6 - 15.1 at% Ce. Single crystal X-ray structural analyses reveal the existence of two types of structural degrees of freedom, i.e., the Au/Ga mixing sites and the fractional Ce occupancy site: the former enables a large variation in the electron concentration and the latter allows a variation in the occupancy of a magnetic impurity atom at the center of the Tsai-type cluster. Following these findings, the influences of two types of structural modifications on the magnetism are thoroughly investigated by means of magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measurements on the Au-Ga-Ce 1/1 AC. The spin-glass (SG) state is found to be the ground state over the entire single-phase region, showing a robust nature of the SG state against both structural modifications. In addition, a gigantic specific heat (C/T) is commonly observed at low temperatures for all the compositions, which is consistently explained as a consequence of the spin-freezing phenomenon, not of a heavy Fermion behavior as reported elsewhere. Moreover, the origin of the SG state in the 1/1 Au-Ga-Ce AC is attributed to the existence of non-magnetic atom disorder in the Au/Ga mixing sites. Furthermore, a Kondo behavior is observed in the electrical resistivity at low temperatures, which is enhanced by increasing the Ce concentration, verifying that a Ce atom introduced at the cluster center behaves as a Kondo impurity for the first time. Keywords:

We consider the q-state Potts spin-glass model, with quenched couplings taking two different values only. As an approximation for this model a proper generalization of the random energy model is derived. Formulas of the resulting diluted generalized random energy model (DGREM) are applied to calculate the ground-state energy for the two-dimensional Potts spin-glass model. The semianalytical results are compared with numerical determinations of the ground-state energy, using multicanonical, random cost, and simulated annealing techniques.

Effects of certain impurities, which exit in growth solution of KDP crystal, on optical qualities of KDP crystal were investigated. The results showed that the effects of different kinds of impurities are not the same. The reason can be ascribed to the chemical structure and chemical bonds between the impurities and surface atoms of KDP crystal are not same. Those impurities have similar structure and easy to form H bonds with [H_2PO_4]~-,such as pyrophosphate and sulfate affect pyramidal sector of KDP crystal easily while the other impurities, such as Cl~- have no evident effect on the growth and properties of KDP crystals.

The properties of dilute magnetic alloys which exhibit both a spin-dependent impurity-impurity interaction and the Kondo effect are studied by extending the previous two-impurity calculations of the authors to many impurities. The general formulation of the many-impurity Kondo problem is presented and discussed in the very-low-concentration limit. It is found that the effective Kondo temperature ${T}_{K}^{E}(n)$ of the impurity at site $n$ is given by ${T}_{K}^{E}(n)={T}_{K}{[1\ensuremath{-}{(\frac{{W}_{n}}{{T}_{K}})}^{2}]}^{\frac{1}{2}}$, where ${W}_{n}$ is an effective impurity-impurity interaction potential acting on the site $n$ under consideration and ${T}_{K}$ is the single-impurity Kondo temperature. For a set of randomly distributed impurities, we find that ${T}_{K}^{E}(n)$ is a random variable whose value is site dependent. Expressions for the high-temperature resistivity are also obtained.

Start with cement magnetism, concrete's magnetism is studied.By basic theory and experiment method of magnetics,Pot-land cement's magnetism is studied. It can be known by the hysteresis curve gained by experiment result that Potland cement and composite cement have some iron-magnetism characteristics under function of added magnetic field, while the white cement shows weak magnetism. It has been given that the index value is2.0Gs when indentify cement magnetism on base of quantitative analysis of the characteristics.

We investigate the nature of the spin-glass phase in the four-dimensional Ising spin glass. We study the probability distributions of overlaps, of energy overlaps and ultrametricity for several sizes. We discover the existence of finite-size scaling in the tails of the first and second of these. This allows us to extract some exponents within the spin-glass phase. We also perform studies on quenched thermalization of large samples. Our results together with previous work favour the mean-field picture of the spin-glass phase.
