Abstract:
The One Belt One Road Initiative (OBOR) by China presents a grand vision to the world that aims to foster cooperation among different countries in various fields such as global trade, international relations, infrastructure development, education, and technology. Also known as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), it comprises a network of roads, railways, and sea routes, all geared toward the development of humanity. The purpose of this research is to analyze some of the significant impacts of this massive project in terms of social, economic, and environmental aspects. Through the exchange of culture, sports, education, and international relations on six economic corridors, the BRI has the potential to create substantial economic benefits. The project also prioritizes environmental sustainability through a green BRI approach. All the quantitative and qualitative data are extracted from different research papers/reports, published books, and some online based data portals. It has been shown that the OBOR/BRI seeks to connect the world and foster peace, whilst its implementation may face significant challenges. Nonetheless, it presents new opportunities for people and may usher in a new era of globalization.Topics:

The globalization brings not only opportunities but also challenges to Chinas higher education, especially to that in western China. If the supposition is founded that globalization means maximum benefit, then the negative influence by globalization to the higher education in western China is greater than its positive influence.

China’s reform and opening-up process has coincided with the expansion of globalisation. Many people have expressed the belief that China has been the biggest winner in globalisation, and some of them even believe that the country has begun to take initiatives in globalisation instead of merely being affected by it. This article reviews the foundations of China’s engagement with globalisation, and shows how Chinese scholars have approached the study of globalisation for the past three decades. By further examining the Chinese authorities’ official stance, China’s changing identity and newly announced strategic initiatives, the article argues that the relationship between China and globalisation has undergone a certain transition, in which the country has been increasing its power and will to reshape and engage the process of globalisation.

This paper examines a two-way relationship between globalisation, technology and sustainability. It traces the impact of globalisation on sustainable development while at the same time arguing that low sustainability in developing countries can thwart efforts towards their global integration. The concept of globalisation is presented as being intensive and extensive in form, the former applying to developed and the latter to developing countries. Three different and often conflicting notions of sustainability are also examined, namely environmental, human and macroeconomic sustainability; and the issues of globalisation and sustainable development are discussed with reference to the experiences of Botswana, Malawi and Zimbabwe, all of which are members of regional groupings in Southern Africa.
