    Effect of CuO powder on the combustion and micro-explosion of Mg and Al12Mg17 particles

    Abstract:
    Abstract In this paper, the effects of CuO powder on the combustion and micro-explosion characteristics of Mg and Al 12 Mg 17 were studied. A laser was used to ignite particles and a high-speed micro-camera was used to record the particle ignition, flame propagation, combustion and particle changes before and after micro-explosion. Moreover, emission spectra during combustion and combustion products were analysed. The results show that the addition of CuO contributes to the micro-explosion of Mg particles during combustion, but it is not conducive to the micro-explosion of Al 12 Mg 17 particles. Meanwhile, whether Al 12 Mg 17 particles or Al 12 Mg 17 /CuO particles, the radiation peaks during combustion mainly correspond to Mg or MgO, which means that the addition of CuO cannot promote the gas phase combustion of Al in Al 12 Mg 17 .

    To realize reliably ignition for a small-scale solid rocket motor(SRM),a aft-ignition manner and a fore-ignition manner were designed and worked in SRM ground tests respectively,and the effect of installation position on ignition performance of ignition device was analyzed.The test result indicated that the aft-ignition manner in which the ignition device was mounted on nozzle closure,was not in favour of igniting for the motor.Compared with the aft-ignition manner,ignition charge mass needed in the fore-ignition manner,in which the ignition device was mounted on forward dome of SRM,was reduced 50%.The ignition performance of fore-ignition manner was increased efficiently and every performance can meet the requirements of the SRM ignition.

    The design and application of a high energy and multi-time ignition device applied in constant volume bomb is introduced in this paper. This device can solve the problem that the mixture of air and natural gas can not be ignited in the experiments of substitute fuel test. Through the analysis of ignition energy, it’s found that increasing the ignition energy need to increase the ignition voltage or ignition current or discharge time. This device increases the ignition current and ignition energy and it can ignite the mixture of several status successfully.

    The roles and aims of the single ignition test of the igniters, which used in small solid rocket motor, were introduced in this paper. Based on a lot of single ignition tests, the influence of mass of ignition powder, initial ignition volume, the design status of the nozzle closure and environmental conditions on the ignition characteristic of igniters were also analyzed. According to the single ignition tests results, some measures, such as changing the ignition manners, adjusting the ignition charge etc, had been adopted in the redesign of the igniter. The research indicated that the design modification had been utilized to solve the ignition delay, the ignition failure under low temperature etc ever occurred in the initial design completely.

    Prescribed fire ignition techniques have significant impact on prescribed fires' growth behavior. This paper presents a systematic way of modeling and simulating prescribed fire ignition techniques. An ignition plan specification is developed to formally specify the ignition activities and schedules of prescribed burning events. The ignition plan specification is used by ignition agents, which transform an ignition plan into detailed tasks and carry out the ignition tasks while coupling with a fire spread simulation model. Simulation results of six ignition scenarios corresponding to six basic ignition techniques are provided. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed modeling approach and show that different ignition techniques can result in different fire growth patterns for prescribed fires.
    The factors to affect the ignition property of airbag ignition system were studied from three aspects of ignition composition.The ignition results show that types of ignition composition in the gas generator have apparent influence on ignition property;At the same time,along with the increasing of ignition composition dosage,change trends of ignition property of different types of ignition compositions are not same;The ignition time becomes long when the burning area of ignition pellets decreases,for example increasing diameter or height of the pellets.

    To study the ignition sensitivity of explosive under the outside effect and evaluate the security of use.A transient ignition devices based on high-voltagean discharge and an ignition energy test system based oscillography DPO5054 are designed.Through igniting the fuel air explosive(FAE),the ignition energy of 2.443J of fifty percent is obtained.This offered a new method for exactly testing the ignition energy of the sample.
