Abstract:
A dual-polarized broadband coupled feed dipole antenna loaded with artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) structure is proposed. The proposed AMC structure with 4×4 elements shown in this paper consists of four perfect electrical conductor (PEC) rectangular strips and a ring to reduce the profile height of the dual-polarized dipole antenna. In addition, the dual-polarization antenna adopts coupling feed microstrip to excite two pairs of bow-tie patch. The overall size of the coupling feed dipole antenna is 1.1λ0×1.1λ0×0.09λ0 at 5.5 GHz. Measured results shows that the proposed dual-polarization antenna loaded AMC exhibit a 25.2% common working bandwidth (4.75-6.12 GHz). The isolation is less than -14 dB, and the peak gain is 10.6 dBi. This dipole antenna with AMC structure has the virtues of low profile, wide band, and good radiation performance and it has the potential to be used in C-band communication. Keywords:

In this paper, a low-profile dipole array antenna for on-body communications in wireless body area network (WBAN) is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of eight planar dipole antenna elements. To obtain the monopole-like radiation pattern, eight dipole elements are placed symmetrically around z-axis. The simulated 10-dB return loss bandwidth of the antenna is wide enough to cover the 2.45 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band. The proposed antenna has monopole-like radiation pattern with very thin thickness of only 1.6 mm.

A novel method of reducing the size of a conventional dipole antenna is introduced by means of replacing one of the dipole arms with a helical element. The result of this asymmetrical arrangement is an antenna that presents an omnidirectional pattern with a modest reduction in gain and bandwidth, in comparison to a symmetrical dipole antenna. The structure is effectively represented as a helically counter-poised monopole. It is shown that the counter-poised helix for the monopole, effectively replaces the ground plane of a conventional monopole antenna, or alternatively by using this method the antennas size can be significantly reduced from a full dipole. The principle is validated through measurement of return loss, antenna gain and cross-polarization level.

A planar folded dipole antenna (PFDA) with a feed line which has approximately one-eleventh wavelength to a small terminal for WiMAX has been reported [1]. In this study, in order for MIMO to be introduced, we investigate antenna configurations of a monopole antenna and MIMO array antennas on a small ground plane. It is made clear that a monopole antenna which has about half length of PFDA with feed line can also be operated and mutual coupling of MIMO system is highly affected by an antenna configuration.

A fold monopole/dipole/loop antenna offers unique advantages over a conventional Planar Inverted-F Antenna (PIFA) and monopole antenna for a mobile cellular device. Perhaps the most significant benefit is the fact that up to three resonant modes could be generated in a single continuous loop structure. In this paper, a novel hexa-band internal folded monopole/dipole/loop antenna has been proposed. The proposed antenna has four resonances in which three of them are 0.5λ , 1λ and 1.5λ modes. The distinctive feature of the antenna is an extra 2λ folded dipole mode, which has not been reported so far, is excited and utilized. All these four modes can be employed to cover the Low LTE700/GSM850/900 Band (LB: 698-960 MHz) and the High GSM1850/1900/UMTS2100 Band (HB: 1710-2170 MHz). The proposed loop antenna has been simulated, prototyped and tested. It is shown that the numerically simulated results are in close agreement with the experimental prototype results and proved that the antenna operates as proposed.

In this paper, a low-profile dipole array antenna with monopole-like radiation for on-body communications is proposed. The proposed antenna, operating in the industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band, is designed with consideration of the human body effect. By placing eight planar dipole antenna elements symmetrically around the z-axis, the proposed antenna achieves monopole-like radiation characteristics with a low profile. The antenna has overall dimensions of $0.44{\lambda}_0{\times}0.44{\lambda}_0{\times}0.013{\lambda}_0$ at 2.45 GHz in the ISM 2.45 GHz band (2.4-2.485 GHz) and a 10-dB return loss bandwidth of 4.9% ranging from 2.4 to 2.52 GHz.

The analysis of a new printed antenna is presented and discussed. This antenna consists of a printed monopole, with one or two sleeves on each side, fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) line. Switches are used to control the length of the monopole and the sleeves and to tune the resonant frequencies of the antenna. In the case of the double-sleeved antenna, the switch is used to connect or disconnect a second sleeve in the cactus antenna. Measurement results show that the cactus antenna maintains the dipole-like radiation patterns for all the different resonant frequencies

Based on that triangle monopole antenna has wide frequency band, this paper proposes a novel composite triangle monopole antenna, which is composed of three similar triangle metal plates. Through the electromagnetic simulation software CST Microwave Studioreg, we obtain its characteristics under the condition that its ground-plate is infinite perfect conductor. The simulation results show that the composite triangle monopole antenna not only has wide impedance frequency band, but also takes up smaller space comparing with triangle rnonopole antenna. On the above foundation, we construct composite triangle dipole antenna with two symmetrical composite triangle monopoles without ground-plate and simulate its impedance characteristic, the simulation results further prove that the composite triangle dipoles antenna has stable input impedance between 0.15 GHz and 2.0 GHz (resistance = 150 Omega, reactance = 0 Omega) and has wide frequency band.

1:3 bandwidth dipole antenna is proposed, where in fact the antenna is a monopole with a modified ground. The frequency range of the antenna is 1 to 3 GHz, matched to VSWR = 2. The directivity of the antenna is between 2 to 3 dBi and the average total efficiency is -0.3 dB. The squint is not greater than one degree. The combined structure of dipole and monopole eliminates the need of using any BALUN structure.

This paper presents a dipole-loaded notch antenna designed for the operation of the dual-band WLAN application. The antenna structure starts with a quarter-wavelength slit cut on a ground plane with suitable addition of a planar wire dipole connected to the open ends of the notch. The monopole notch is designed to radiate at the low frequency band, 2.4 ㎓ for IEEE 802.11b/g, while the planar wire dipole is responsible for the other band, 5.2/5.8 ㎓ for IEEE 802.11a. It is found that the wire dipole has the side effect of reducing the slit length due to its capacitive loading effect at the low frequency band. The parametric study is performed to demonstrate the characteristics of the proposed antenna, from which the guidelines for the design of the proposed antenna are provided.

Since the FCC legalized the operation of ultra-wideband (UWB) enabled products in the US, many novel, very broadband antenna designs have emerged. The paper discusses the cable-current effects of a common, miniature printed monopole antenna with a shaped ground plane and of a miniature printed dipole antenna. A CPW-fed pseudo monopole antenna is used to demonstrate that cable currents affect the low frequency performance when the antenna is fed by a coaxial line. A UWB dipole antenna is presented with significantly reduced cable-current effects. It is fed with a CPW line which transitions rapidly into a CPS line. The surface area of the PCBs for the dipole and the pseudo monopole are about the same. It is shown that using a balun and avoiding a finite-sized ground plane reduce the effect of cable currents on the antenna performance.
