Objective To study the relationship between impaction types and extraction time and accordingly make a new classification of mandibular third molars. Methods There were 413 mandibular third molars included in the study. The impaction types were classified according to Pell-Gregory classifications( ramus and occlusal) and Winter classification. Ri、Oi、Wi were used to represent the index of impaction respectively. Cirepresents comprehensive impaction index of mandibular third molars. Ci = Ri + Oi + Wi. Extraction difficulty of mandibular third molars was measured by extraction time. ANOVA was used to compare the difference of extraction time between every two comprehensive impaction indexes of mandibular third molars. Classify mandibular third molars according to comprehensive impaction index and extraction time. Results The extracion time became longer with greater comprehensive impaction index. There were significant differences in extraction time among mandibular third molars in some comprehensive impaction indexes.Mandibular third molars could be divided into six categories( Ⅰ ~ Ⅵ) according to comprehensive impaction index and extraction time. Conclusions There was a close relationship between the extraction difficulty and impaction types of mandibular third molars. The new established classification of mandibular third molars can reflect their extraction difficulty better.

The objective of this study was to study the incidence of type of impaction of mandibular third molars based on the classifications of Pell and Gregory and Winter, which included angulation of the tooth and level of the occlusal surface of the third molar with respect to the second molar, respectively, in a sample of Saudi population in central region. In this retrospective study, orthopantomograms (OPGs) of 17760 patients were examined, who were reported by the Dental University Hospital (DUH) at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, between the years 2016 and 2020. Out of 17760 radiographs, 2187 (12.31%) patients presented with at least one impacted third molar. Out of which, 1337 (7.52%) patients had bilateral impaction and 850 (4.78%) patients had unilateral impaction (p < 0.001). No gender predominance was noted in the impaction status (p > 0.05). In bilateral impaction, 671 were male (50.2%) and 666 were female (49.8%). Among unilateral impaction, 394 (46.4%) were male and 456 (53.6%) were female. Mesioangular angulation was the most common pattern of impaction (65%) followed by vertical angulation in both bilateral and unilateral impactions. Level A impaction was found to be highest in both bilateral and unilateral impactions which are 48.02% and 54.0%, respectively (p < 0.05). Our study highlights mesioangular impaction and level "A" as the most frequently encountered angulation and level of impaction in impacted teeth. This study result provides us useful data regarding the radiographic status of mandibular third molars in the population of Saudi Arabia.

Objective:To investigate the canine impaction of adolescents in Luzhou through X-ray flims. Method:1800 panoramic radiographs of adolescents aged 12 ~14 were chosen to identify impacted canine and to anlyze the sites, types and gender ratio for canine impaction. Result:The incidence of canine impaction was 3.72 %. The ratio between male and female Was 1:1.79;The incidence of maxillary canine impaction was 3.33 % and the incidence of impacted mandibular canines was 0.33 %. There was only one patient had impacted maxillary and mandibular canines. The incidence of mesial impacted canines was found to be 92 % and the incidence of canine transmigration was 0.22 %. Conclusion:There were more unilateral maxillary canine impaction and more women in patients, and the most frequently impacted type was mesial impaction.

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study are to analyze the pattern; symptoms and pathology
associated with impacted mandibular third molar teeth.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This descriptive case series study was conducted at department of
Oral &Maxillofacial Surgery Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad.
The duration of study was from 1st Nov 2011 to 31st July 2012.Patients complaining of impacted
teeth along with two diagnostic x rays, age, gender, type of impaction and associated pathology
were recorded.
RESULTS: Total of 290 patients were included in this study. Out of these females were predominantly affected, mean age was found to be 24.41 years. Vertical impaction was the most common type of mandibular impaction(37.4%) and pain, caries was the common pathological symptom associated with impacted teeth.
CONCLUSION: Our study showed most common age group involved was group 1 sample sizes.
Vertical and Mesioangular were most common impaction seen in this study group with common
symptoms pain and caries.

Introduction: Third molars are the most common teeth that may follow an abortive eruption path and become impacted as a result of pathology, anatomical structures or insufficient osseous space posterior to the second molars. Aims and Objectives: The present study evaluated (1) the distribution of the impaction of mandibular third molar; (2) the distribution of the patterns of impaction radiographically; and (3) the gender distribution for pattern of impaction. Materials and Methods: This hospital-based retrospective study was conducted over a course of 6 months in the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology and presents the analysis of 122 panoramic radiographs of patients between the age group of 18-30 years. They were interpreted and assessed for the impaction of mandibular third molars. Statistical analysis was done by Chi-square test. Results: Bilateral impaction of mandibular third molar is more common than unilateral in both the sexes, with mesioangular being the most common pattern. In males, mesioangular pattern was followed by horizontal, whereas in females it was followed by vertical. Conclusion: The present study provides useful data regarding the radiographic status of impacted mandibular third molars in patients.
