Studies of some biochemical parameters in wild Cajanus scarabaeoides was carried out and compared with Cajanus cajan as its cultivated relative.C. scarabaeoides is considered to have a potent source of genetic variation carrying genes for resistance to various biotic and abiotic stresses and other morphological traits.Comparative analysis of biochemical parameters revealed distinct genomic diversity between the two species.Electrophoretic study of leaf isoperoxidases in two species of Cajanus indicated the presence of species specific variability in terms of relative mobility values of isozymes.Higher values of total amino acids, sugar and protein content in C. scarabaeoides also indicates ethnobotanical significance of the species as compared to widely cultivated C. cajan.

A field investigation entitled "Effect of plant spacing on different genotype of pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millisp] was conducted during Kharif 2013-14 at experimental farm Department of Agronomy, College of Agriculture, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada KrishiVidyapeeth, Parbhani, to study effect of spacing on the growth and yield of pigeonpea, to evaluate performance of genotype of pigeonpea on different spacings. The experiment was conducted in split plot design with four spacings i.e. S 1 -60 x 30 cm , S 2 -90 x 20 cm, S 3 -120 x 15 cm, and S 4 -60 x 60 -120 cm in main plot and three genotypes G 1 -BSMR-853, G 2 -MUTANT(M)-853 and G 3 -BDN-711 in sub plots with twelve treatment combinations. It can be concluded that, the spacing of 120 x 15 cm (2341 kg ha -1 ) and 60 x 60 -120 cm (2237 kg ha -1 ) were found highly productive as compared to 90 x 20 cm, 60 x 30 cm.Among the genotypes of pigeonpea BDN-711 (2119 kg ha -1 ), found significantly higher over BSMR-853, however it was at par with MUTANT (M)-853 (2000 kg ha -1 ).

We introduced varieties of Cajanus cajan(L.) Millspaugh from India to the dry-hot valley of Yuanmou County,Yunnan Province in 2000.Its adaptability of phonological characteristic, growth condition at deteriorate mountain land and drought-heat resistance etc were studied. The results showed that Cajanus cajan(L.) Millspaugh could grow at degraded mountain land in the dry-hot valley, and its growth potential was better than original place. The light-heat resistance of Cajanus cajan(L.) Millspaugh are so strong that it could adapt the different light-heat environment in the dry-hot valley. But if the temperature was more than 37℃,it would stoped photosynthesis. The drought resistance of Cajanus cajan(L.) Millspaugh are also strong, and it could use different physiology modulation to adapt the dry-hot environment for completing its growth period. The Cajanus cajan(L.) Millspaugh could adapt the eco-environment of dry-hot valley. It is optimization shrub to control degraded mountain land.
