    Abstract:
Time-reversal invariance and inversion symmetry are responsible for the topological band structure in Dirac semimetals. These symmetries can be broken by applying an external magnetic or electric field, resulting in fundamental changes to the ground state Hamiltonian and a topological phase transition. We probe these changes via the magnetic-field dependence and gate voltage-dependence of universal conductance fluctuations in top-gated nanowires of the prototypical Dirac semimetal Cd3As2. As the magnetic field is increased beyond the phase-breaking field, we find a factor of sqrt(2) reduction in the magnitude of the universal conductance fluctuations, in agreement with numerical calculations that study the effect of broken time reversal symmetry in a 3D Dirac semimetal. In contrast, the magnitude of the fluctuations increases monotonically as the chemical potential is gated away from the charge neutrality point. This effect cannot be attributed to broken inversion symmetry, but can be explained by Fermi surface anisotropy. The concurrence between experimental data and theory in our study provides unequivocal evidence that universal conductance fluctuations are the dominant source of intrinsic transport fluctuations in mesoscopic Cd3As2 devices and offers a promising general methodology for probing the effects of broken symmetry in topological quantum materials.

Liquid crystals of uniaxial and biaxial molecules are considered in the framework of the mesoscopic description which is a general tool of continuum theory. A mesoscopic theory introduces the fields beyond hydrodynamics as additional variables of a configuration space, called mesoscopic space, on which the fields appearing in balances are defined. Besides the mesoscopic space, a mesoscopic distribution function is introduced which describes the distribution of the additional variables at each time and position. It is demonstrated, how the mesoscopic theory can be applied to liquid crystals, and how the Ericksen-Leslie theory and the alignment tensor theory of liquid crystals fit into the mesoscopic framework.

The specific noise types in quantum devices are researched. Under some conditions, these noise types predominate above more conventional types of noise. The time dependent model of charge transport for mesoscopic structures is discussed, and equations for fluctuations of chemical potentials in mesoscopic structures were obtained. It is also demonstrated in this article that some new types of noise may exist in mesoscopic structures.

Some of the recent results on the transport properties of small disordered (mesoscopic) metal samples are considered from the viewpoint of the exact electron levels in a given realization of random imurity potential. Statistics of random one-electron energy spectra turns out to be close to the one derived by Dyson for the ensembles of random matrix hamiltonians. This fact, which can be verified by direct calculation, is shown to be sufficient to explain qualitatively most of the results in mesoscopic. Mesoscopic fluctuations of the relaxation time scales (of the widths of one-electron levels) are also considered and are shown to give rise to the alternative contribution to the fluctuations of transport properties.

We study anomalous mesoscopic transport effects at the onset of the superconducting transition focusing on the observed large Nernst-Ettinghausen signal in disordered thin films. In the vicinity of the transition, as the Ginzburg-Landau coherence length of preformed Cooper pairs diverges, short-range mesoscopic fluctuations are equivalent to local fluctuations of the critical temperature. As a result, the dynamical susceptibility function of pair propagation acquires a singular mesoscopic component, and consequently, superconducting correlations give rise to enhanced mesoscopic fluctuations of thermodynamic and transport characteristics. In contrast to disordered normal metals, the rms value of mesoscopic conductivity fluctuations ceases to be universal and displays strong dependence on dimensionality and temperature and under certain conditions can exceed its quantum normal-state value by a large factor. Interestingly, we find different universality as magnetic susceptibility, conductivity, and transverse magnetic thermopower coefficients all display the same temperature dependence. Finally, we discuss an enhancement of mesoscopic effects in the Seebeck thermoelectricity and Hall conductivity fluctuations as mediated by emergent superconductivity.

In the framework of this work an overview of the theory of mesoscopic systems is made. The main effects of mesoscopic systems are noted. It is determined that the macroscopic characteristics of the system are significantly fluctuating within the mesoscopic level. The basic indicators of coherence of the quantum phase are determined and the mechanisms of influence are outlined. Six effects of mesoscopic systems are characterized with detailed justification. The theory of mesoscopic systems is based on the following mesoscopic effects: the Aaronov-Bohm effect; the effect of the integral quantum output; fractional quantum Hall effect; universal fluctuations of conduction; quantum conductivity quantum dot contact; DC currents in mesoscopic rings.Prospects for further developments in this area of research are based on a detailed study of mesoscopic effects based on the growing tendency for the production and research of materials containing the smallest structures and have low-dimensional features, which leads to the mesoscopic regime.

In this article, we define rock structural planes caused by mineral orientation and layering distribution of some rock ingredients which is different from both rock mass scale structural planes and micro structural plane at crystal scale, as rock mesoscopic structural plane, and the rock anisotropy caused by the existence of these structural planes as rock mesoscopic anisotropy. Rock mesoscopic scale anisotropy index is introduced and its simple but efficient testing method is suggested. With the rock mesoscopic anisotropy index, the degree of rock mesoscopic anisotropy can be quantified easily and the process in simplified.
