Abstract:
Containing the largest number of species, the orchid family provides not only materials for studying plant evolution and environmental adaptation, but economically and culturally important ornamental plants for human society. Previously, we collected genome and transcriptome information of Dendrobium catenatum, Phalaenopsis equestris, and Apostasia shenzhenica which belong to two different subfamilies of Orchidaceae, and developed user-friendly tools to explore the orchid genetic sequences in the OrchidBase 4.0. The OrchidBase 4.0 offers the opportunity for plant science community to compare orchid genomes and transcriptomes and retrieve orchid sequences for further study. In the year 2022, two whole-genome sequences of Orchidoideae species, Platanthera zijinensis and Platanthera guangdongensis, were de novo sequenced, assembled and analyzed. In addition, systemic transcriptomes from these two species were also established. Therefore, we included these datasets to develop the new version of OrchidBase 5.0. In addition, three new functions including synteny, gene order, and miRNA information were also developed for orchid genome comparisons and miRNA characterization.OrchidBase 5.0 extended the genetic information to three orchid subfamilies (including five orchid species) and provided new tools for orchid researchers to analyze orchid genomes and transcriptomes. Sobralia abadorum (Orchidaceae) - a new orchid species from Peru Sobralia Ruiz & Pav. is one of the largest genus in Orchidaceae. It comprises about 150 species distributed from Mexico to Bolivia. In this paper, a new species of Sobralia from Peru, S. abadorum , is described and illustrated. Its taxonomic affinity is briefly discussed. An analysis of ITS sequences indicates an isolate position of this new species.

Four new records of Orchidaceae from Hunan are reported,Apostasia ramifera S. C. Chen et K. Y. Lang、Eria sinica(Lindl.) Lindl.、Gastrodia albidoides Y. H. Tan T. C. Hsu were collected from The Jiulongjiang National Forest Park in Rucheng County and Galeola faberi Roife was collected from Daweishan National Forest Park in Liuyang County. Apostasia is a new genus in Hunan province. The voucher specimens are preserved in CSFI. The distribution area of the four species of Orchidaceae newly discovered in Hunan are all have a larger span,it has a important value on the fl oristic studies of Orchidaceae. Orchidaceae is the essence of the forest, with a rich species diversity. But many species only have a tiny population, needing high requirementsin on the ecological environment. The Orchidaceae basically were raised in a primeval forest or on the rock suiface which were undisturbed. It is particularly important to protect the habitat of Orchidaceae. In this paper,we discussed the investigation and protection of orchidaceae in Hunan.

Abstract Two new species of Neotropical Orchidaceae, Epistephium epiphyticum Szlach. & Kolan. and E. cardonae Szlach. & Kolan., are described and illustrated based on Colombian material. So far the new entities are known exclusively from the type locations. Both species are placed within a key to Colombian Epistephium Kunth.

A new species of Orchidaceae, Calanthe yaoshanensis Z. X. Ren & H. Wang from northeastern Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated. It is morphologically similar to C. brevicornu Lindley, from which it differs by having a glabrous column and an elliptical middle lobe with three triangular lamellae. The morphological differences between C. yaoshanensis and related species are discussed. The habitat was investigated and its conservation status was assessed as a ‘Critically Endangered’ (CR).

A new species from Madagascar, Lesliegraecum elzbietae Mytnik, Szlach. & Olędrz. (Orchidaceae, Angraecinae) is described and illustrated. The morphological description is complemented with data of ecology and distribution of the species. The taxonomic affinities of the new taxon are discussed and key to determination of all Lesliegraecum representatives is provided.
