    Abstract:
Highlights This study created a simulation model to predict the ride vibration of a tractor and to optimize its suspension. The parameters of the tractor were obtained from various tests to create a fully validated model. The acceleration measured in a tractor cabin was compared with the simulation model in the time and frequency domains. The ride vibration of a tractor was evaluated under various road conditions with a fully validated model. Abstract . A typical problem with tractors and other agricultural machinery is the excessive ride vibration, which results in an inconvenient working environment and poses a risk to the health of operators. In this study, a simulation model for predicting the ride vibration of a tractor and optimizing the cabin suspension was developed to address this limitation. First, the required parameters used computation tests to create the simulation model. Mode and frequency-response function analyses were then performed to validate the model for ride vibration, from which the natural frequency and mode shape were analyzed. Subsequently, the riding characteristics of an actual tractor on a stepped road surface were simulated using a four-post road simulator, and the acceleration measured in the cab was compared with that of the simulation model in the time and frequency domains. Finally, the parameters of the cabin suspension were optimized using the validated simulation model, and the correlation between the cabin suspension parameters and ride vibration was examined. Following optimization, the vibration value of the tractor cab was found to decrease as the damping coefficient of the cabin suspension decreased for all surface conditions selected in the simulation. Thus, the developed tractor simulation model can be used as a ride vibration simulation when developing the control logic of a tractor’s cabin suspension, as well as a plant model of hardware-in-the-loop simulation to verify the control logic. Simple beam which with the cross-section and continuous structure,is usually used as an analysis tool of the vibration phenomenon.Dynamic analysis of simple beam with the application of theoretical analysis and experimental testing methods, can get natural frequency, vibration amplitude and critical damping of the continuous structure. To analyze the natural frequency, vibration, amplitude and critical damping can avoid sympathetic vibration, which leads to the furthest damage to the framework. It can also reach the intention to avoid vibration.Start with the natural frequency and inherent vibration of the simple beam with cross-section,which offered a useful method to start our research of vibration of complicated framework.

Abstract : Construction of the 'T-150' tractor is discussed. According to the author the tractor is one of the best designs on the market, and yet is not being well utilized or appreciated. The author attributes this to poor servicing and a lack of high-speed implements for use with the tractor, making it work generally at something lower than peak output.

In order to reveal the change rule of vibration acceleration during micro-end-milling straight groove, the single-factor and orthogonal experiments are employed to confirm the influence of milling parameters on vibration acceleration. On this basis, the relation equation between milling parameters and vibration accelerations is built. The result show that, the vibration acceleration along the width of groove is bigger than that of feed direction and it will increase rapidly with the improve of cutting speed; the predicted result of vibration acceleration is in good accordance with test result, therefore the relation equation can be used to predict vibration acceleration.

For analyzing the launch noise of elastic launch system in submarine,a vibration model of new elastic launch system is established.Based on the hypothesis that the vibration of elastic rubber disc can be simplified as that of thin plate, the free vibration process and natural frequency of the rubber disc are analyzed.By means of some known parameters of elastic launch system, the basic frequency is estimated via simulation of the vibration model, and the influence of the parameters variation on the elastomeric vibration frequency is discussed. The results show that the basic frequency of free vibration in a vacuum is lower, and the elastomeric thickness and diameter show linear relations with the basic frequency of vibration. These features will facilitate the design of elastic launch system.

Tractor rollover occurs when a tractor tips sideways or backwards and overturns, potentially crushing the operator. Rollovers are typically considered to occur more frequently during a sharp turn at a high speed on sloping terrains, although data show that rollovers do occur on flat land after hitting obstacles or through inappropriate use and hitching of implements. It is important to highlight that tractor overturns are the major cause of death in farm operations. The overturns are as a result of interactions between the tractor operator, the tractor and the environment. A review of the relevant literature reveals that more than 800 people are killed each year in tractor accidents, and for every person killed, at least 40 others are injured. This paper focuses on tractor overturns because they account for more than half of all the tractor-related deaths. In addition, farm tractor operational safety principles are also highlighted.

Tractors are costly machines and hence it is important that they are operated by well-trained operators. A survey of 61 agricultural tractor operators at Ejura, Ghana was conducted to identify their personal profile, and to assess their background training in tractor operation and maintenance. The mean age of the tractor operators was 35 with a standard deviation of 9 years. About 47.5% of the tractor operators were illiterate while 37.7% had between one and six years of primary school education. About 36.1% of the tractor operators had no valid driving licence while 31.1% had the agricultural and road construction equipment licence. The remaining 32.8% of the tractor operators had vehicle driving licences of various grades. The responses to the survey show that 96.7% of the tractor operators learnt how to operate the tractor from other tractor operators rather than from a formal tractor operation training school. Survey responses indicate that 78.7% of the operators do not have access to the tractor operator’s manual, or keep records of tractor operation, maintenance and repairs. Additionally, the results show that 67.2% of the operators did not know their tractor rear tyre inflation pressures. Furthermore, 96.7% of the operators did not follow tractor manufacturer’s recommendations in the maintenance and repair of their tractors. Survey results also indicate that all the tractor operators who participated in this study can correctly identify the appropriate soil condition before ploughing. The study draws attention to seriously consider providing quality training to tractor operators at Ejura.

This paper reviews the types of tractor in use in West Germany and discusses the sales of new tractors over the last few years. It is shown that the interest in all-wheel drive tractors is steadily increasing owing to their higher power rating and improved tractive ability. The paper also comments on tractor equipment and design in relation to the proposed E.E.C. regulations for safety and performance, and concludes by summarizing some of the problems of tractor development.
