Abstract:
This paper presents a theoretical study to determine the capacity of collecting solar energy, thus improving the electrical performance of a photovoltaic collector in a horizontal position mounted by a mirror. In order to validate the presented results, they have been compared with experimental results found in literature by respecting the same conditions and the same properties of the system employed in the experimental study. By combining a reflecting mirror and a photovoltaic collector, the solar radiation collected, which depends on the optimal orientation of the mirror, is improved. Therefore, the aim of this work is to find the optimal angles of the mirror, which depends on the sun elevation angle, the azimuth angle for typical days. Consequently, after a critical analysis of the sum of daily solar radiation collected by the solar collector with and without the reflector, a significant increase in solar radiation has been noticed using the reflector. Keywords:

After introducing the concentration ratio and intercept factor of focusing collectors with parabolic cylinder mirrors, the energy balance equations were derived to determine the efficiencies under steady state conditions. The components of the collector were varied and optimized with respect to maximum efficiency. The dynamic behavior of the collector was calculated and the average efficiencies compared with the efficiencies in the steady state condition.

The parabolic reflector is an ideal xenon lamp reflector.According to the features of the parabolic reflector, the relationship among the focal length, diameter, axial defocus and the wrap angle of reflector are analyzed. The inflence axial defocusing on the wrap angle and the distance of complete flash is also discussed.

This paper describes the concept and design of a novel compact self-supported cup feed antenna for parabolic reflectors. The feed antenna consists of an open waveguide cup which is excited by a disk loaded dipole. This structure is fed by a coaxial waveguide through a split-coaxial balun and has a rear radiation pattern toward the reflector antenna. Two different types of this configuration are designed in this paper: a linearly-polarized grid reflector antenna fed by a single dipole excitation, and a circularly-polarized solid reflector antenna fed by a cross dipole excitation. The measurement is done for the former, and simulation results of the latter via two different software packages CST and HFSS are compared in this paper.Analyzing the results shows that both types of cup feed antenna have an excellent aperture efficiency and low side lobe level.

Solar energy is transforming to be the promising renewable energy resource that could be used efficiently for human basic needs like cooking. This study presents the performance analysis of solar cooking instruments based on their geometrical aspects. The main aim is to find the best solar cooking device that can efficiently absorb heat reflecting from its surface. Here we evaluated the performance of parabolic type solar reflector and Scheffler type solar reflector in terms of its thermal efficiency and losses. The main dependent factor for this comparative analysis is the geometry of the reflectors with a diameter of 1.5 m and the radiation of the sun. For better reflectivity in both receiver and concentrator or reflector medium, stainless steel material is used. Depending on these factors, we have evaluated performance of both the reflectors and found satisfactory results. Theoretical and simulated results over various conditions prove that the Scheffler reflector performs well compared to parabolic collector.

Parabolic reflector antennas often require a large volume and are often difficult to package onto a spacecraft. Here, we propose a reduced height segmented parabolic reflector with a lower vertical profile while maintaining good gain performance.

The radiation characteristics of an umbrella-type reflector are studied in detail. When the supporting ribs of the quasiparabolic reflector are parabolic in shape and the surface between any two adjacent ribs is the surface of a parabolic cylinder, the deviation of the surface from the true parabolic shape has the effect of spreading the focal point of the parabolic reflector into a focal region, the limits of which can be calculated from the knowledge of the reflector parameters. The best feed position can be accurately determined by requiring that the phase error over the surface be minimized. For the cosine to the power n illumination, numerical results showing the gain degradation, the shift in optimum focal point, and the change in secondary patterns, due to the deviation of the reflector surface from the true parabolic surface, are presented.
