Evaluations of refereed research journals typically target their quality.Because of the hybrid nature of aviation education as a discipline and its orientation toward applied research, this research expands the scope of the evaluation process to encompass professional publications that address practitioner interests and focuses on three educational areas: 1) quality, 2) contribution to the discipline, and 3) relevance to ongoing research.Thirty-one out of 205 aviation educators queried responded to the survey by selecting and assessing periodicals pertinent to the discipline.

An investigation is being conducted to determine whether the Boeing Company violated regulations by not notifying the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) immediately upon learning of faulty wiring in 757 fire extinguisher systems. The problem was discovered by Boeing on August 3, 1988, and reported to the FAA on January 4, 1989. Federal requirements currently leave room for interpretation.

Abstract : The attitudes of Navy and Marine Corps aviation trainees toward women on several factors, including acceptance into aviation training, are considered. The results, which indicate that the attitudes of naval officers are significantly more liberal than the college normative population, are discussed in terms of their utility in the successful implementation of women into military aviation, their effect upon male participation, and their significance in a time of an all-volunteer force and continuing need to recruit. The increasing importance of agricultural aviation can best be judged by a table setting out the area treated in the U.S.A., U.S.S.R., U.K. and other countries, which was compiled from recent publications. Fig. 1 shows how important a sector of aviation agricultural aviation has become. Like other aircraft operations, agricultural aviation is not particularly profitable. Therefore a certain amount of work has gone into economic studies and into development work on methods for improving the service rendered to agriculture in order to improve the economy of aircraft operation.
