    Abstract:
Abstraction is an indispensable element in the figurative painting. However, in the freehand oil painting which belongs to the figurative painting, the abstract elements are often covered up by the abstract language in the painting. Therefore, when many people appreciate the freehand oil painting, they can only see the artistic conception described in the painting, but they are completely unable to detect the existence of abstract elements in the painting. However, although people often ignore the appreciation of abstract elements, its existence has an important effect on freehand oil painting. It can not only enrich the content of the painting, but also enhance the connotative value of the work. Therefore, painters must pay full attention to the use of abstract elements in the freehand oil painting, so as to enrich the form and connotation of the painting and promote the effective enhancement of its artistic value.

The art world is only beginning to realize the profound influence the Paris art community of the early 20th century had on what we now identify as Modernism. Regional groups of figurative painters, from California to Russia and Australia to Scandinavia, absorbed many influences and crossed paths with leading artists who worked in Paris. This important new book highlights the work of 204 newly discovered regional Modernist painters, especially some from Belgium, with carefully researched biographical information about each one. Over 350 color photographs display their dynamic works. These paintings helped t spread Parisian ifluence throughout the world, and often are showcased in galleries today. This pioneer work documents many of the artists for the first time. It is a companion volume to the authors' previous book, Modern Figurative Paintings, The Paris Connection (Schiffer, 2004) which covers a different group of artists and paintings.

The fair use of color photographs in realistic oil paintings does no harm to the artistic characteristics and aesthetic value of realistic oil paintings. On the contrary,it favors the continuous improvement and development of the realistic oil painting art. This fair use for reference is not simply to make a wholly intact replica of a photo, but to make use of it and create vivid works of art filled with the painter's emotions. In this way,the creation of oil painting can maintain its own unique form of artistic expression and be more open to absorption of modern art form.Hence,it is a painter's research of photos as material reasonably in the creation of painting.

Oil painting represents the mainstream of modern Western painting art. The development history of Western painting art cannot be separated from the evolution of the style, subject matter and techniques of oil painting. Since its emergence, oil painting has experienced several style periods, including classicism, Romanticism, Impressionism, abstraction and so on. Among them, Impressionism, which was born in the middle of 19th century, played an important role in the history of western oil painting. It changed the style and way of oil painting popular in the past few centuries with new color theory and creative techniques. Impressionism emphasized the intuitive observation and real performance of the painting object. Since then, painting is no longer limited to the spiritual transmission of the author, and "what you paint is what you see" has gradually become one of the creation principles of Western oil painting. This paper analyzes the paintings of famous Impressionist painters with examples, sums up how Impressionist paintings skillfully use light, shadow and color to create, and discusses its referential significance for modern illustration.
