The millimeter wave Radio over Fiber (MM-RoF) system, which combined the advantages of in fiber system and wireless millimeter-wave communications system, has advantages such as broad band, small size, light weight, low cost, anti-electromagnetic interference and high transmission quality. MM-RoF system could solve the problems of high loss and weak anti-interference ability in traditional microwave transmission system. At the same time, MM-RoF system could overcome the bottleneck problem of millimeter-wave electronic device with a great potential for development. The multi-format multi-service MM-RoF technology is an important direction for the development of MM-RoF system.

A novel hybrid 10 G/1 G coexisted TDM-PON based on reflective ONUs is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. 10-Gb/s upstream is successfully achieved by 4 piped 2.5-Gb/s sub-units in the ONU with negligible power penalty less than 0.2 dB.

Climate policies can be applied either upstream, where fossil fuels are extracted, or downstream, where emissions are generated. Specific policy instruments can be defined for either level, and can take the form of a price signal such as through a tax, or a quantity limit such as through direct regulation or a permit market. In this study, we present an agent-based model to compare the performance of these different instruments and regulation levels. Since policy coverage is often limited, i.e. not all firms being under the regulator's control, we also examine the impact of incomplete coverage on relative policy performance. Our analysis shows that only upstream regulation leads to an increase in fossil fuel prices, which is benefitial under limited coverage as it also affects firms not directly affected by the policy instruments; that prices under quantity-based regulation can decline after an initial peak, stabilizing at a lower level than under the tax; and that direct regulation is more efficient when applied upstream.

In this paper, we present a new FDMA-PON (Frequency Division Multiple Access — Passive Optical Network) architecture proposed by the FP7 EU STREP project titled “FABULOUS”. The paper is focused on the upstream transmission, based on an innovative reflective optical network unit (R-ONU). A detailed theoretical analysis is first presented and used to optimize the system parameters, then we show the experimental results, demonstrating a 16 Gbps upstream bit rate per wavelength.

We propose a new technique for multi-wavelength upstream transmission in time division multiplexed-passive optical networks using FP-LDs at optical network units. The scheme increases upstream capacity without the use of costly higher speed burst-mode transceivers.

In this paper we propose to combine the concepts of outphasing and analog-radio over fiber. The analog outphasing signals are generated centrally and transported to the remote antenna system over fiber. There, high-performance and highly non-linear power amplifiers can be used. This approach creates an energy efficient communications infrastructure based on a centralized radio network. A first demonstrator is built at Ka-band using discrete components, experimentally showing the feasibly of this concept at millimeter-wave. Preliminary results show a measured error-vector magnitude of 4.18% over a wireless channel.
