Abstract:
Observation: This case report describes atypical presentation of iatrogenic calcinosis cutis in neonate.Iatrogenic calcinosis cutis usually presents by swelling erythema, induration, and soft tissue necrosis.Thus calcinosis cutis is usually easy to diagnose for clinicians.However, when extravasation is minor, the etiological relation of extravasation and calcification may not be obvious.Because of these reason, radiological findings are very important and they are usually the key to the diagnosis.A careful differential diagnosis from hematoma, abscess, or cellulitis prevent the patients from misdiagnosed and overtreatment.Keywords:

Species specific diseases, e.g. idiopathic mucinosis of the Chinese Shar Pei are reported by use of 31 clinical cases and 140 biopsy samples. Idiopathic mucinosis is one of the most frequent diseases of this increasing breed in Germany, too. The disease is diagnosed by use of histologic examination of skin biopsies. Therapy is performed by application of corticosteroids and symptomatic treatment.

Calcinosis cutis, the cutaneous deposition of calcium salts in the dermis, can occur through a variety of pathogenetic mechanisms, and can be associated with both normal and elevated calcium levels. Iatrogenic causes of calcinosis cutis include extravasation of intravenously administered calcium chloride or calcium gluconate, and traumatic deposition of calcium in the skin, subsequent to electromyography or electroencephalography. We report two cases of calcinosis cutis following intravenous infusion of a calcium-containing salt.

Epidermolytic hyperkeratosis is a rare congenital ichthyosis. Platelike osteoma cutis also is a rare diagnosis and is associated with abnormal ossification of cutaneous or subcutaneous tissue. A 17-month-old Hispanic girl presented with a plate of subcutaneous bone since birth as well as considerable scaling and hyperkeratosis centered around the joints. Histologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of both epidermolytic hyperkeratosis and osteoma cutis. Although there have been some cases of epidermolytic hyperkeratosis with other dermatologic conditions, we report a rare case of epidermolytic hyperkeratosis and platelike osteoma cutis.

Calcinosis cutis is a disease characterized by precipitation of calcium and phosphate salts in the subcutaneous tissue. It is classified in four different groups depending on the etiology. The most common subtype is dystrophic calcification and is usually associated with connective tissue diseases, including systemic sclerosis, dermatomyositis or systemic lupus erythematosus. However, only two cases have been reported in relation to rheumatoid arthritis. A female patient, who had been followed for 20 years because of the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, was admitted to the hospital due to the complaints of redness in her right leg and discharge. Many radiopaque mineral deposits were observed in the bilateral soft tissue of the lower extremity by direct radiography. There was no evidence of other connective tissue diseases upon evaluation for the differential diagnosis of calcinosis cutis. Serum calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, and parathyroid hormone were normal. Septic arthritis in the right knee was detected on the fifth day of follow-up. The aim of this study was to present a case of calcinosis cutis in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis that presented with soft tissue infection resulting in right knee septic arthritis.

A 4-week-old girl presented with acute swelling of hands and feet preceded by a red facial rash. In the days before formula feeding was gradually introduced. This proved to be a rare but severe generalized allergic reaction to cow milk.
