    Abstract : An accurate method is proposed for the determination of zirconium in zirconium metal and zirconium powder. The sample is dissolved in a mixture of hydrofluoric, nitric, perchloric, and sulfuric acids, the solution is evaporated to dryness, the salts are dissolved in dilute hydrochloric acid, mandelic acid is added, the solution is heated at 80 deg C. for 40 minutes, the zirconium mandelate is filtered off, the residual zirconium in the filtrate is recovered by heating at 80 deg C. overnight, and the combined precipitates are ignited over a blast burner to zirconium dioxide. An investigation was made of the factors involved in the dissolution of the sample, precipitation with mandelic acid, ignition of the precipitate, and size of the sample. The effect of hafnium and possible interferences was considered.

    A spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of lanthanum and cerium in the presence of large amqunts of heavy rare earths with p-acetylarsenazo. The rare earths, except lanthanum and eerium, are masked with EDTA and Zn-EDTA. This method has been applied to the analysis of synthetic samples and Longnan mixed rare earth oxides without any previous separation and satisfactory results were obtained.

    The structure changes of A356 alloys melted with different content of lanthanum have been studied.The results show that the refinement effect of lanthanum isn't obvious.The second dendrite arm spicing refinement effect of lanthanum to A356 alloys is obvious.Morphology of eutectic silicon in A356 alloys with content of lanthanum≥0.05% is partially modified.Influence of lanthanum on pinhole is great.The pinhole in A356 alloys with addition of lanthanum is little.

    AbstractThe present investigation of the cellular distribution of lanthanum was undertaken in order to control the validity of the "Lanthanum method" used for the study of the cell calcium compartments. The presence of lanthanum was evaluated in the isolated guinea-pig heart and its subcellular fractions perfused with a lanthanum-containing Tyrode solution. Lanthanum was determined by instrumental neutron activation analysis. Under the adopted experimental conditions (30-min incubation in the presence of 12.5 µ lanthanum), lanthanum is carried across the cell membrane and is taken up by subcellular organelles. These results confirm the limited validity of investigations based on of the "Lanthanum method".

    The doping effect of rare-earth elements was systematically investigated in BaTiO_3- R_2O_3-MgO(R=La,Ce,Pr,Nd,Sin,Gd,Dy,Ho,Y,Er,Yb)dielectrics.SEM-EDS show that rare earth ions with small radius can form the core-shell-structured fine grains and the secondary phase R_2Ti_2O_7 appears because of the segregation of small ions on the grain boundary regions,while the large radius ones distribute uniformly in BT grains and promote grain-growth.The results indicate that the solubility of rare-earth ions in BaTiO_3 decrease as the ionic radius decreases.Due to the different site occupancy and compensation model,the small ionic radius R-doped ceramics show higher insulation resistivity compared with the large ionic radius R-doped ones.The large ionic radius R--doped samples exhibit single-peake-T,but the small ionic radius R-doped ones present double-peake-T and improve stability of△C/C-T meeting X8R code.
