Abstract:
Abstract Molecular aggregates are receiving tremendous attention, demonstrating immense potential for biomedical applications in vitro and in vivo. For instance, the molecular aggregates of conventional fluorophores influence the electronic excitation states of the aggregates, causing characteristic photophysical property changes. A fundamental understanding of this classical relationship between molecular aggregate structures and photophysics has allowed for innovative biological applications. The chemical characteristics of drug molecules generally trigger the formation of colloidal aggregates, and this is considered detrimental to the drug discovery process. Furthermore, nano‐sized supramolecular aggregates have been used in biomedical imaging and therapy owing to their optimal properties for in vivo utility, including enhanced cell permeability, passive tumor targeting, and convenient surface engineering. Herein, we provide an overview of the recent trends in molecular aggregates for biomedical applications. The changes in photophysical properties of conventional fluorophores and their biological applications are discussed, followed by the effects of conventional drug molecule‐aggregates on drug discovery and therapeutics development. Recent trends in the investigation of biologically important analytes with aggregation‐induced emission are discussed for conventional and unconventional fluorophores. Lastly, we discuss nano‐sized supramolecular aggregates used in imaging and therapeutic purposes, with a focus on in vivo utilization. Keywords:

The earliest scientific journals on biomedicine began publication in the 50s and their authors addressed the application of biology to medicine. More recently, biochemistry and biomedical engineering questions have figured more prominently. This trend is discussed in a survey of the topics appearing in the Journal of Applied Biomedicine. Pharmacological and toxicological articles have been popular over the long term and the neurosciences, chronomedicine, molecular and cell biomedicine have also been very important. The role of computational biomedicine and nanomedicine has received increasing attention as has the part which applied biomedicine can play in the enhancement of the general economy.

Using an established method, we isolated a large quantity of cucurbit[10]uril (Q[10]) and prepared Q[10]-based supramolecular assemblies via different approaches. For example, the structure-directing agent [CdCl4]2– was used or the Q[10] molecule itself acted as a self-structure-directing agent to form different Q[10]-based supramolecular assemblies through the outer surface interaction of Q[10]. Generally, the Q[10]-based supramolecular assemblies possess porous features that suggest that Q[n]-based compounds could be used to manufacture molecular sieves and sensors and applied in absorption and separation technologies.

Abstract This chapter discusses biomedicine, which is different from most other healing systems, such as the wide range of local healing activities described by ethnographers. The discussion centers mostly on the biomedicine of knowledge creators—teachers, researchers, textbook authors, etc.—and of the high-technology tertiary care institutions that dominate medical training and which represent high status in the profession. The chapter also tries to emphasize the scientific paradigm that is at the center of biomedicine's knowledge-generating and training system.

Many researches in biomedicine had been done in Indonesia, but only a few research results go downstream or applied in the industry. Mapping the potency of research downstream in biomedicine is carried out by classifying research outputs in biomedicine. One of the research outputs that can be used and easy to get is research publications. An effective and efficient classification of biomedicine research can be done using a computerized predictive model based on text mining of research publications. The objective of this study is to introduce a conceptual model in classification of biomedicine research based on research publications. The model of classification is defined based on findings in in-depth interview with researchers and industries about biomedicine discovery process, and a literature study. The relation of the classification model with the technology readiness level (TRL) model is analyzed by mapping. This conceptual model of classification of publication in biomedicine research to research downstream potency, developed as part of a research framework to build a computerized predictive model based on research publications.
