The presence of motility inhibitors in seminal plasma and within spermatozoa from control and infertile men with poor sperm motility was investigated using demembranated reactivated human spermatozoa. No difference was found in the inhibitory capacities in seminal plasma of patients with poor sperm motility (< 50%) when compared with that of fertile controls with motility above 50%. No correlation was observed between inhibitory capacity and sperm motility. However, when extracts of spermatozoa from these patients were tested for the presence of inhibitor, it was observed that three of nine patients had an inhibitor in their sperm extract. By contrast, all sperm extracts from fertile control subjects were devoid of inhibitor. It was concluded that the presence of a motility inhibitor in seminal plasma does not explain the poor sperm motility observed in patients. The presence of a motility inhibitor within spermatozoa, however, may represent an important factor in the etiology of the poor sperm motility observed in some patients.

Fish spermatozoa are general immotile in the testis and sperm plasma, motility is induced after the discharge of sperm into the aqueous environment. The motility are influence by osmolality, ion, CO_(2) and pH value. The environmental factors which activate cAMP-ATP-Mg~(2+) system will affect spermatozoa motility. Motility of spermatozoa were measured by the duration of their movement, the percentage of motile sperm, their velocity and flagella beat frequency. The changes of sperm motility in the genital tract of fishes are also been discussed.

Objective :To study the effects of Huangjingzanyu optimized formula on sperm motility in rat with asthenospermia. Methods :Rats with asthenospermia were induced by Multiglycosides of Tripterygium Wilfordii(GTW).Sperm motility velocity and motility mode were measured with computer-aidd sperm analysis(CASA). Results :Sperm concentration, motility, viability and motility velocity(VCL、VSL、VAP)were significantly increased in middle dosage of optimized formula. The effects of middle dosage group were similar to those of Huangjingzanyu group and better than those of large dosage, small dosage and wuziyangzong pill group.Sperm motility mode(LIN、STR、WOB、ALH、BCF、MAD)were not changed significantly in 3 different dosage of optimized formula. Conclusions :Huangjingzanyu optimized formula can increase sperm concentration, motility, viability and motility velocity.

Sperm motility is one of the most important parameters in semen analysis. In this study the motility scoring method of Hellinga was used. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the main energy source used by the sperm flagellum to initiate and propagate forward motility. This study was conducted to evaluate the interrelationships between sperm ATP and differential motility. The differential motility method supplemented the conventional by which the quantitative and qualitative motility were estimated. There was a good correlation between the differential motility scoring method and sperm [ATP], although the latter did not necessarily improve the diagnostic capacity.

Abstract The motility patterns of mouse spermatozoa before and after capacitation are described. The latter is very characteristic, with spermatozoa describing a figure‐8 pattern while remaining relatively stationary within a 3‐dimensional space.

The effect of different Solcoseryl (Solco, Basel, Switzerland) concentrations on the motility of human sperm were tested on 37 ejaculates taken from two subject groups. Altogether 111 motility studies were performed using the eosine vitality test. In view of the considerable variations associated with motility tests, Solcoseryl appeared to have no effect on sperm motility in the majority of cases in group 1. The observed improvement in motility (20%) was countered by still greater motility losses (27%). The results, obtained by studies on selected asthenospermia (group 2) are different, however: the 26% increase in motility was opposed to a motility loss of only 17%. A Solcoseryl concentration of 50% was found to have the best effects on motility. A general rise in sperm motility by means of Solcoseryl cannot be considered, although tests would appear advisable in isolated instances. Solcoseryl may be a valuable protective resuspension agent for insemination purposes.
