Abstract:
251 Background: To summarise the prognostic value of PROs in advanced GO cancer. Methods: We searched multiple databases using search terms developed with medical librarians. Studies examining the relationship between baseline PROs and prognosis were included. Two reviewers screened articles and extracted data on study design, survival, univariable and multivariable relationships between PROs and prognosis. QUAL-SYST was used for quality assessment. Discrepancies were resolved by a third reviewer. Results: Of 3002 abstracts, seven studies were included: four pooled analyses of randomised controlled trials (RCTs), two RCTs and one cohort study. Five received QUAL-SYST scores >65%. Total 3,408 patients and 2,761(81%) with PRO data. Median survival ranged from 4.5 to 9.5 months. In one univariable analysis for oesophageal squamous cell cancer (SCC), physical functioning and fatigue measured by QLQ-C30 had prognostic significance. For adenocarcinoma, physical functioning, global QOL, role functioning, emotional functioning (QLQ-C30) were significant in three studies. Pain was significant in three studies (QLQ-C30 n=2, EQ-5D-3L n=1). Fatigue (QLQ-C30) was significant in two studies. Appetite loss (QLQ-C30) was significant in two studies. In multivariable analyses for oesophageal SCC (QLQ-C30) physical and social functioning had prognostic significance. In adenocarcinoma, physical functioning, role functioning, appetite loss, global QOL, social functioning and pain showed prognostic significance (Table). One study showed adenocarcinoma patients with lower anorexia (FAACT-A/CS scores of >37) lived longer (19.3 months) than patients with low scores ≤37 (6.7 months). Conclusions: Baseline PROs for multiple functional domains, symptoms (pain, appetite loss) and overall QOL have prognostic significance in advanced GO cancer. Further research is needed to establish clear levels of the relationship which could assist in communication with patients about prognosis, and stratification for clinical trials.[Table: see text]Keywords:
Anorexia
Tumor-associated anorexia, mainly including cancerous anorexia and chemotherapy-induced anorexia, severely reduces the life quality of cancer patients but lacks of effective control until now. Liujunzi decoction (LJZD), a classical tonifying formula in traditional Chinese medicine, has promising effect in preventing and treating many kinds of anorexia. A growing number of evidence showed that LJZD is able to improve tumor-associated anorexia. Up to March 2022, a total of 58 articles studying LJZD or Rikkunshito (the name of LJZD in Japanese herbal medicine) in the treatment of tumor-associated anorexia are searched out in PubMed. This paper summarizes the effect of LJZD in ameliorating tumor-associated anorexia, in order to provide a theoretical basis for the clinical application of LJZD in treating tumor-associated anorexia, laying foundation for further research.

Objective: To study on treatment of anorexia in children. Methods: 60 Cases of anorexia of children were treated with Erkangning, and compared to controled group 55 cases with routine medicine. Results: 48 Cases were recovered, 7 cases improved, the total effect rate was 91. 67% in study group; but 32 cases were recovered, 10 cases improved, the total effective rate was 76. 36% in controled group, there was a significant differentiation, P 0. 01.

Anorexia is defined as a lack or loss of appetite. It frequently occurs post-hibernation and the phrase post-hibernation anorexia (PHA) has been coined, implying that this is a separate condition. PHA is simply anorexia occurring in the period immediately post-hibernation. It should be investigated and treated as per anorexia at any other stage of the year – the causes are much the same. This chapter discusses prognostic indicators and differential diagnoses of anorexia. It also discusses the therapy for the depleted chelonian.

A case of parotidomegaly associated with anorexia is described, and the psychoneurological and etiopathogenetic theories of main feed disorders (anorexia/bulimia) are discussed. Particularly, a rare pathology of maxillofacial interest is presented: parotidomegaly associated with anorexia. The diagnosis and differential diagnosis of this pathology is discussed.

This study was designed to identify the severity of anorexia and the diet patterns in receiving chemotherapy. The identification of anorexia would provide useful and basic information to oncology nursing care. The subjects of this study were 102 hospitalized chemotherapy patients in a September 10, 1994. The subjects were 20 years old or above and who agreed to participate in this study and could understand the questionnaire. Three-days diet history were collected and analysed. The study subjects change, food aversions, the severity of anorexia. Data related to demographic and other mecdical characteristics such as age, diagnosis, and medication were collected by review of patient medical record. The results of this study were summarized as follows : 1) The score of anorexia was 73.7 in Anorexia Visual Analogue Scales and mean amount of fool intake per a day was 823cc. The larger the anorexia VAS score, the more severe of anorexia. 2) The food preferences of subjects were identified. Those were aversions, or dislikes the meat such as beef, pork, and chicken, and greesy or fried foods. The Caffeinated drinks such as coffee and tea were disgusted, also. The patients preferred vegetables and Korean traditional food especially kimchee and soy bean soap. 3) Those who were administered analgesics and cisplatin suffered more severe in anorexia than those who analgesics and cisplatin was not administarted. The patients with gastrointestinal cancer has more severe anorexia than those who have the other site cancer ; head and neck, genirourinary etc. The result of this study in turn provide valuable nursing practice guidelines for nutritional counseling in cancer chemotherapy patient. Nurses working with chemotherapy ward should identify the severity of anorexia and diet patterns. In conclusion, the severity of anorexia in cancer chemotherapy patients is very important problems. Health care personnels recognize the potential problems of anorexia and encourage the nutritional counseling in cancer chemotherapy patients.

ANOREXIA is a common reason for pet rabbits to be presented for veterinary treatment and there is a long list of potential causes, including pain, stress, dental disease, chronic renal failure and various digestive disorders. Certain physiological characteristics of rabbits make them particularly vulnerable to the effects of anorexia and many will die without treatment. Prompt and accurate diagnosis is vital. This article describes the digestive physiology of rabbits and discusses the causes and effects of anorexia in this species. The diagnosis and treatment of anorexia in rabbits will be discussed in an article in the next issue.

Based on the comparison between 120 cases of Xingxibao-treated children with anorexia and 60 cases of Haoware you-treated children with anorexia, and a method of random grouping, the effect of using Xingxibao to the children with anorexia was studied. It also discussed the relationship between the anorexia and the lack of zinc. The result shows that Xingxibao is far better than the Haoware you( P 0 01)on the treatment of anorexia, without any kickback.Besides, the article reminds people the anorexia is closely related to the lack of zinc.Since it's common that the infants are always in lack of zine during the period of upgrowth.Children should be supplemented with frequently to avoid zinc deficiency.
