    Abstract:
    Usability is a factor that indicates the success of an interactive product or system, such as a mobile application. The increasing use of smartphones demands a more accurate and effective usability evaluation method to find usability problems, so that they can be used for product improvement in the development process. This study compares the Cognitive Walkthrough method with Heuristic Evaluation in evaluating the usability of the SIRS Del eGov Center mobile application. Evaluation with these two methods will be carried out by three evaluators who act as experts. Finding problems and recommending improvements from each method will produce an improvement prototype made in the form of a high-fidelity prototype. Each prototype will be tested against ten participants using the Usability Testing method, which will generate scores through the SUS table. From the test scores, the percentage of Likert scale and the success rate of each prototype will be found. The results show that between the two usability evaluation methods, the Heuristic Evaluation method is the more effective method, finds more usability problems, and has a higher Likert scale percentage, which is 66.5%, while Cognitive Walkthrough is 64.75%.

    Support to website developers without formal training in human-computer interaction that enable them to conduct their own usability evaluations would radically advance integration of usability engineering in web development. This chapter presents experiences from usability evaluations conducted by developers and results from an empirical study of means to support non-experts in identifying usability problems. A group of software developers who were novices in usability engineering analyzed a usability test session with the task of identifying usability problems experienced by the user. In their analysis they employed a simple one-page tool that has been developed to support identification of usability problems. The non-experts were able to conduct a well-organized usability evaluation and identify a reasonable amount of usability problems with a performance that was comparable to usability experts.

    Abstract Testing is one of the critical stages in the software development life cycle (SDLC). Usability testing is a very important field that helps the applications be usable and easy for the users. Because of the importance of usability testing, a metrics has been developed to help in measuring the usability through converting the main qualitative usability attributes in ISO to quantitative steps that provide the developer a framework to follow in developing to achieve usability of their applications and helps the tester with a checklist and a tool to measure the usability percentage of their application. The framework provides a set of steps to achieve the usability attributes and answers the question of how you could measure this attribute with the defined steps. The framework results in a 95% average accuracy in the high-rate application and a 59% average accuracy in the low-rate application. Finally, the framework is programmed in a tool to measure the usability percentage of the application through a checklist and provides a scheme to help the developer achieve the best results in usability.

    Despite the increased focus on usability and on the processes and methods used to increase usability, a substantial amount of software is unusable and poorly designed. Much of this is attributable to the lack of cost-effective usability evaluation tools that provide an interaction-based framework for identifying problems. We developed the user action framework and a corresponding evaluation tool, the usability problem inspector (UPI), to help organize usability concepts and issues into a knowledge base. We conducted a comprehensive comparison study to determine if our theory-based framework and tool could be effectively used to find important usability problems in an interface design, relative to two other established inspection methods (heuristic evaluation and cognitive walkthrough). Results showed that the UPI scored higher than heuristic evaluation in terms of thoroughness, validity, and effectiveness and was consistent with cognitive walkthrough for these same measures. We also discuss other potential advantages of the UPI over heuristic evaluation and cognitive walkthrough when applied in practice. Potential applications of this work include a cost-effective alternative or supplement to lab-based formative usability evaluation during any stage of development.

    The user feedback is always important in order to enhance the quality of the software. Usability and user experience are the factors to be considered to improve the quality of the software. There are different methods to evaluate the usability of the software but here in this paper we are aiming to measure the user experience of software, designed for the usability evaluation of the higher educational websitesin order to enhance the usability.     The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of usability and usability techniques. It discusses interaction design with a bias on web-based technologies, focusing on usability and usability definitions. Usability principles are discussed with a particular focus on web usability, and some of the techniques that can be used to incorporate usability design and testing. The chapter also considers aspects of electronic commerce usability. These techniques are divided into usability evaluation, (heuristic evaluation, checklists, usability tests, think aloud approaches) followed by designing with usability in mind (including user and task analysis, walkthroughs, user experience and scenario-based usability). Several E-commerce case studies, from a developing economy perspective, are then analysed, before finally discussing E-commerce usability.

    Usability for software systems has emerged as an integral part of the continuous commercial success of IT companies. This is partly due to the vital need to satisfy customers' goals for systems becoming pervasive and ubiquitous within our daily life. In this research study, we have explored the use of task models to define how the user should interact with a given system. Based on empirical data collected from end-users participating within the usability evaluation of a web application, data analysis is conducted to infer the usability degree. This is carried out in compliance with the defined task model and usability metrics describing efficiency of use. The proposed approach is a milestone towards automating usability evaluation as most of the studies are reporting manual-based methods to assess the usability of software systems. Experimental results performed to assess the usability of a website shows the potency of the system to discover usability setbacks that can be addressed to improve the user experience.
