    Abstract:
Probiotics and prebiotics have become viable alternatives of growth-promoting antimicrobials in animal production. Here, we tested partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG) as a possible prebiotic for piglets in the commercial farm. Five hundred and ninety-four piglets were used for the experiments, with 293 given a normal pig feed (control), while the rest the feed plus 0.06% (w/w) of PHGG (PHGG). One and three months post-PHGG supplementation, fecal samples were collected from randomly selected 20 piglets in each group and analyzed for microbiota and organic acid concentrations. Notably, the abundance of Streptococcus, and unclassified Ruminococcaceae were lower (p < 0.05) in PHGG than in control, one-month post-supplementation. Lactobacillus and Prevotella were higher (p < 0.05), while Streptococcus was lower (p < 0.05), in PHGG than in control, three months post-supplementation. The concentrations of acetate, propionate, and butyrate were greater in PHGG than in control, three months post-supplementation. Finally, PHGG grew faster and had fewer deaths until slaughter time (p < 0.05), than control. We concluded that PHGG not only was an effective prebiotic to alter gut microbiota of weanling piglets but also can possibly promote body weight accretion and health.

More than 100 weanling pigs from 10 sows were studied the effect of adding non-starch-polysaccharide enzyme(NSPE) to corn-soybean diet on the growth and nutrient digestibility of weanling pigs.A corn-soybean diet as basic diet was used in all groups in this trial.Adding 120g/t NSPE to the diet used in the test groups, but on adding any NSPE to its diet for control one.The results showed that the digestibility of protein and organic matter of weanling pigs could be increased by 9.67% and 15.40%(P0.05), respectively.Adding NSPE to the corn-soybean diet, there was no obvious effect on the growth of weanling pigs before weanling, but there was an obvious positive effect on the weanling pigs from 0 to 14 day after weanling by increasing the daily gain of 10.40%(P0.05),increasing the total litter weight by 17.65%.The result also indicated adding NSPE to the weanling diet could decrease the weanling stress .

More than 100 weanling pigs form 10 sows were studied for the effect of corn soybean diet adding non starch polysaccharide enzyme (NSPE) on the growth and digestibility of weanling pigs. Adding 120g/t NSPE to the control sample, and get the test sample. The results show that the digestibility of protein and organic compounds of weanling pigs can be increased by 9.67% and 15.40% (p0.01); respectively. Adding NSPE to the corn soybean dirt, there is no obvious effect on the growth of weanling pigs before ablactation, but there is an obvious positive effect on the weanling pigs after 0~14 day ablactation by increasing the daily liveweight increase 10.40% (p0.05), increasing the total litter weight by 17.65% (p0.05). The result also hits adding NSPE to the weanling diet can decrease the stress of weanling pigs.

To investigate the impact of different weanling diets on expression pattern of Hypocreins Receptor 2(HCRTR2) in intestine for weanlingpiglets,real-time quantitative reverse transcription PCR(RT-qPCR) was carried out to quantify HCRTR2 expression at age of 0,3,7 and 14 days in weanling piglets fed with the diets 30% milk protein substituted the whole protein(treatment 1) and the vegetable protein(treatment 2).RT-qPCR result showed that HCRTR2 expressed in postnatal intestine of piglets during weanling. In the treatment 1,the expression level increased on day 3,7,14 compared with day 0 with 4.30,6.60 and 4.12 times higher respectively and expression on day 7 being highest. In the treatment 2,the expression level increased 1.44 and 4.50 times on day 7,14 while it decreased 0.71 times on day 3 compared with day 0.In conclusion, the different protein diets affect the expression pattern of Hypocreins Receptor 2 in intestine for weanling piglet.

Feeding pattern of weanling rats bearing hypothalamic lesions was studied. Although there was no overeating or only a delayed overeating(in the females), feeding pattern of these weanling rats was similar to that of adult rats bearing the same lesions. This was interpreted as to mean that ventromedial lesions in weanling rats also have caused hyperphagia although the overeating may be masked by the concommitant growth hormone insufficiency.

To test the effect of dietary protein restriction on mitogenesis and the mixed leukocyte reaction in the mouse immune system two protocols were followed: 1) a 4% protein diet ad libitum and 2) a standard diet of 24% protein fed only on alternate days, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (intermittent feeding). The effect of dietary restriction was tested on weanling animals, placed on the dietary regimes for 1 and 6 month periods and adult animals (17 months of age) for 6 months of restriction. The results indicate that dietary restriction has a profoundly suppressive effect on mitogenesis and MLC1 during the first months of growth (i.e. weanling animals tested after 1 month of restriction). After 6 months of continued restriction suppression was no longer observed in the weanling animals. The 17 month old animals placed on restricted dietary regimes for 6 months showed results similar to the control group. The intermittently fed animals present a more complex picture. Initial suppression of the responses, observed in weanling animals after 1 month of restriction gave way to responses which are significantly higher than control levels after 6 months of dietary restriction. The results are discussed in terms of a general model of immunological stress.

Forty-eight piglets were selected from 9 litters and randomly divided into two groups: weanled on the 23rd and 28th days by using crossbred(Duroc×Landrace×Large White) piglets.Every group takes the samples at 0,3,7 and 14 day, respectively after weanling. The results showed that weanling on the different day have prominent influence on production performance of the piglets. The ADG and ADFI of piglet weaning on the 28th day were higher than that of piglet weaning on the 23th day notably. In addition, various digestive enzyme activities in digestive ferment of piglets weanled on the 28th day were higher than the 23rd of the same period age piglets in 2 weeks after weanling.
