The exploration of collaborative care between primary care providers and behavioral health provider for patients with depression was the quality improvement practice. The electronic medical records and depression screening of patients (n=51) in a rural primary care clinic were analyzed for accurate diagnosis of depression, increased depression screening for participants with chronic medical conditions, increased communication between the providers, and depressive symptoms improvement. The primary care clinic did not have a routine screening for depression. The results highlighted the need for collaborative care in the primary care clinic for patients with depression.

Summary ‘Collaborative care’ (involving a case manager) and ‘primary care liaison’ or ‘consultation liaison’ (with no case manager) are models of liaison psychiatry in primary care. Here, I briefly consider the evidence for collaborative care, discuss Gillies et al 's Cochrane review on consultation liaison, and suggest avenues for future study and development of liaison psychiatry in primary care.

There are many developments in the Dutch healthcare, diseases are better treatable and people are getting older. This causes new solutions for delivering care. One of the solutions to deal with the increasing demand for healthcare is telemedicine. Telemedicine is the delivery of care on a distance by using communication technologies. But telemedicine is not widely adopted yet. Important stakeholders for the use of telemedicine in the healthcare setting are the healthcare professionals. This research focusses on the facilitators and barriers that exist within the choice for the use (or not) of telemedicine.
