Abstract:
MAVIS was a project that aimed to study the interactions in social networks (Twitter and Instagram) between users regarding the sentiment expressed in their messages when they talked about specific vaccines or diseases. The study was performed during the period 2015-2018 and was initially technically done by using a set of commercial tools to identify the polarity of the messages. With the aim of improving the results provided by such tools, we performed a deep analysis of the results from such tools and provide a machine learning method as a metamodel over the results of the commercial tools. In this paper we explain both the technical process performed together with the main results that were obtained. Keywords:

The concept of a metamodel has been an important tool for simulation analysis for forty years. These models of simulation models have the advantage of faster execution, and they can (sometimes) provide insight on the nature of the simulation response as a function of design and input distribution parameters. This introductory tutorial will describe metamodeling uses and associated processes, survey commonly used metamodel types and associated experiment designs, and give a brief description of some recent developments and how they may affect future “mainstream” simulation metamodeling.

Model integrated computing (MIC) is an effective and efficient method for developing, maintaining, and evolving large-scale, domain-specific software applications for computer-based systems (CBSs). On a higher level, it is possible to use MIC to develop, maintain, and evolve the meta-level tools (metamodeling environments) themselves, by modeling the metamodeling environment (meta-metamodeling). This paper documents the evolution of one metamodeling environment into another: specifically the design choices of the newer metamodeling environment with regard to the old one, and the solutions to problems that were introduced with the change.

Metamodels are becoming increasingly popular for representing unknown black box functions. Several metamodel classes exist, including response surfaces and spline-based models, kriging and radial basis function models, and neural networks. For an inexperienced user, selecting an appropriate metamodel is difficult due to a limited understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of each metamodel type. This paper reviews several major metamodeling techniques with respect to their advantages and disadvantages and compares several significant metamodel types for use as a black box metamodeling tool. The results make a strong case for using Non-Uniform Rational B-spline (NURBs) HyPerModels as a generic metamodeling tool.

Metamodels are simpler computer models that are designed to mimic the input-output behavior of discrete-event or other complex simulation models. They are models of models, thus the name (provided by Jack P. C. Kleijnen). This introductory tutorial will highlight uses of metamodels, commonly used metamodel types, the linkage between metamodel type and the set of simulation model runs used to fit the metamodel, and basic issues in building and validating metamodels. The tutorial ends with a brief summary of recent research in metamodel types and use, and the implications for future metamodeling applications.
