Abstract:
The aim of the study is to reveal the trends in the field of public relations by examining the topic of ‘public relations models’ in order to capture the variation in public relations practice. Bibliometric analysis has been chosen as the methodology in this study to show publishing patterns as it finds out the stream of knowledge and the development of literature in a specific discipline. Data used in this research were collected from Thomson Reuters Web of Science Database. By selecting the topic of ‘public relations model’ in the search button, 595 studies were investigated within the context of institution and country collaboration, cocitation network analysis, co-word network analysis and citation burst. In order to perform these network analyses, the CiteSpace II software package has been used. The findings suggest that the USA as a country, universities in the USA as institutions and academics from the USA as author collaboration are found to be the top ranked items by centrality on the topic of public relations models. Grunig and Grunig’s (2002) paper on public relations and communication models is found to have the strongest citation burst as expected. The most investigated research topics are global flux, the blog-mediated crisis communication model, and stakeholder relationship. Keywords:

With the newly developed information visualization methods, this paper analyzed the literature themed at Webometrics cited by ISI Web of Knowledge. Using the software CitespaceII, this study developed a knowledge map of the representative personage and works on Webometrics. Finally, based on the detection of the subject headings with word frequency of significant fluctuation, the research frontier and the further development trend of Webometrics was determined and the knowledge map of them was developed.

Paper reviews the development of webometrics researches conducted by scholars and depicts the origin of webometrics from bibliometrics. Relationship between metrics branches such as bibliometrics, scientometrics, informetrics, webometrics and cybermetrics has been established and discussed the boundary of each. Webometrics techniques like web link structure analysis, web page content analysis, web usage analysis, and web technology analysis elaborated. Further webometric terminology and diagrams used for understanding of webometrics terms has been explained thoroughly.

There have been substantial studies conducted on webometrics, especially on the impact of websites and the web impact factor. The present study analysed the websites of private universities in Bangladesh according to the webometrics indicator. It examines and explores the 44 private university websites in Bangladesh and identifies the number of web pages and link pages, and calculates the Overall Web Impact Factor (WIF) and Absolute Web Impact Factor (WIF). In a crosssectional study, all the websites were analysed and compared using AltaVista search engine. The websites were then ranked based on these webometric indicators. The study revealed that some private universities in Bangladesh have higher number of web pages but their link pages are very small in number, thus the websites fall behind in their Overall WIF, self link, external links and Absolute WIF. Finally, it is showed that these universities did not have much impact factor on the web and were not known internationally. The major reasons are discussed and suggestions to overcome the problems are presented.

Introduction. For some years bibliometric studies have identified webometrics as one of the largest information science fields. Nevertheless, most published webometric research is relatively theoretical and, as a new research field, seems unlikely to survive unless it is useful in some way. In general it is very important for academics to identify hot research topics and avoid unpromising ones and so methods are needed to help this identification process.
Method. This article uses citation analysis and a survey of webometricians to assess the extent to which webometrics has found applications outside of its parent discipline.
Results. The results suggest that there has been a turn towards applied webometrics with several externally-financed studies being contracted. Moreover, there is a significant amount of citation of webometrics research by disciplines outside information science, including computing, communication science and health. Nevertheless, it seems that the potential user base for current webometric techniques is wider still, creating a need for awareness-raising.
Conclusions. Whilst webometrics already has several claims to usefulness, there is still progress to be made.

Bibliometrics deals with the quantitative aspects of print documents. Webometrics deals with the application of informetric and other quantitative techniques for the analysis of Web documents. This article briefly describes the trend from bibliometrics to webometrics. Also discusses some important application areas of Webometrics research, the methodology adopted for data collection, techniques and tools of Web analysis and the problems encountered in Webometric research. Methods of computing Web Impact Factors and highlights the research possibility in Webometric study are considered. A webometric case study of 13 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) is presented. The analysis shows that the IIT, Bombay occupies the first place among the 13 IITs and the IIMs based on both absolute and logarithm values.
