    Abstract:
The objective of this study was to obtain the growth curve of selectively bred tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) reared in different environments. The experiment was carried out in the municipalities of Santo Antônio de Leverger (Mato Grosso – MT) and Campo Grande (Mato Grosso do Sul – MS), Brazil, over 431 days. Weight and morphometric traits of two families (A and B) from the second generation of selective breeding (G2) were measured every 30-45 days. The Gompertz regression model was used to obtain the growth curves. The production performance of both families and the interaction between families and locations (genotype × environment) were evaluated by analysis of variance considering the family (A and B), location (MT and MS), family × location interaction and error as variation factors. The asymptotic value (parameter A) obtained for weight and morphometric traits (except head length) was higher (P<0.05) in MT (weight of families A and B: 2279.6 g) than in MS (weight of family A: 1400.0 g; weight of family B: 1600.0 g). Family B showed better production performance in MS. There was a genotype × environment interaction effect on weight, body length and standard length. The two families have distinct growth patterns in different production environments. Family B has better growth performance in the environment with lower temperatures (MS).

The growth curve of Bian chicken was analyzed and fitted with three kinds of nonlinear models(Logistic,Gompertz,Bertallanffy). The results showed that the growth curves were appropriately fitted with three models. The values of R2 were higher than 0.99,and the Bertallanffy models had the best effect on fitting with the growth curve(the values of R2 in cock and hen were 0.9974 and 0.9984 respectively). It is feasible to analyze and fit the growth curve of the Bian chicken using the three models.

The growth curves of Xingyi duck were separately fitted by Logistic,Von Bertalanffy and Gompertz nonlinear growth models according to measured body weight values of young male and female ducks to provide the reference basis for standardization breeding and variety selection of Xingyi duck. The results showed that the body weight of 0~4 weeks old Xingyi duck was in the rapid increment period and the growth rate of female duck was higher than male duck, but the week-growth rate of 6~10 weeks old Xingyi duck slowed down gradually and the week-growth rate of male duck was higher than female duck.Three nonlinear growth models all could better fit body weight growth curves of Xingyi duck and the fitting effect of Gompertz model was the best in three nonlinear growth models. The fitting models for male and female duck were 1404.492e-4.079exp(-0.382t) and 1301.985e-4.324exp(-0.433t) respectively.Three rational breeding stages of 0~4 weeks,5~10 weeks and 11 weeks to adult were divided according to the change regulation of body weight and fitted growth curves.

The growth curves of Liyang chicken of 12 weeks old were analyzed and fitted with two kinds of non-lineared models. The results indicated that the males and females had the same growth curve before 3 weeks old,And then, the males got a higher growth rate than females did.The growth curves could be fitted by Logistic model and Gompertz model for males(R~2=0.994 4 and 0.995 3,resp.) and females(R~2=0.996 7 and 0.997 9,resp.).But Gompertz model was considered to be the best model to fit growth curves of Liyang chickens because of its higher fitness and less bias of predicted body weight on the given age.The parameters of fitted curves representing the maximum body weight in males were higher than those in females.

The aim of this study was to reveal the growth and development rules of Huangshan black chicken's body weight, and the growth curves of Huangshan black chicken from 0 to 20 weeks were analyzed and fitted with three kinds of nonlinear models( Gompertz,Logistic and von Bertalanffy). The results showed that the growth curves of body weight could be fitted by three nonlinear curve models, and the fitness exceeded 0. 99,Gompertz model was much better to fit growth curves of the male's body weight( R2= 0. 9991),von Bertalanffy model was much better to fit the female's body weight( R2= 0. 9982). The estimated values of maximum body weight of adult cocks and hens were1885. 83 g and 1503. 54 g,respectively. The inflexion point of age of cocks( 9. 071 week) was late than that of hens( 7. 528 week). During the period of 2 to 20 week, absolute growth velocity curves and body weight of the male were higher than that of the female, respectively.

This study was aimed to obtain the growth curve of body weight in male layer chickens (Lohman MB 202) based on Logistic and Gompertz models. The frequently data of body weight from one day age to adult age were used for growth curve prediction. Total of one thousand birds from private sector poultry farm in Tasikmalaya Regency, Indonesia were used in this study as the data source. The growth curve estimation was calculated based on Logistic (L) and Gompertz (G) models using Curve Expert 1.4. computer program. The final weight (asymptote) in birds was reached of 1111.27 g (L) and 1685.13 g (G). Therefore, the weight of inflection(Wi) of birds were reached of 555.64 g (L) and 619.53 g (G). The time of inflection (ti) and maximum growth rate (GR) of birds in both models were ±6 months and ±19 g/week respectively. In result, both models had similar of coefficient of determination (R2) value. However, the growth curve of Gompertz (G) model was confirmed as the best growth curve for body weight of birds in this study because of lower of standard error (SE) value.

Abstract Gaddour, A. and Najari, S. 2008. Adjustment of the kid's growth curve in pure goat breeds and crosses under southern Tunisian conditions. J. Appl. Anim. Res., 34: 117–120. Five non-linear statistical models, Gompertz, Brody, Richards, Logistic and Polynomial, were tested to fit the kid's growth curve parameters and shape of indigenous goat, Alpine, Damascus and their crosses. Data from 16 years periodical weighing was used to adjust growth curve before 5 months age of 1687 suckled kids. Gompertz model was the best to adjust kid's growth evolution. Curve parameters were fitted by Gompertz model after about 16 iterations with a CD value of 71%. The crossbreeding allowed a better growth kinetic with respect to indigenous kids. The best growing performances were obtained for the first generation of crossbreeding. The growth curve adjustment will help to a better herd management and kid's fattening according to each genotype potential.

A total of 90 Hunan yellow hens at 140 days old were selected. The body weight and body size(body length, chest width and tibia length) were determined.Growth curve fitting was performed. The results showed that the Logistic model and the Gompertz model well fit the growth curve of Hunan yellow hens. The fitting degree and accordance between measured values and estimated values of body weight better fit the Gompertz model, but those of body size better fit the Logistic model.

Abstract Growth curves are important for understanding the growth phase and specific characteristics of farm animals. This study evaluated growth curve models to predict the age at puberty and growth rate of Ongole Grade cattle. The study used the weights of cattle from birth to 3 years old in 2011 to 2019 obtained from the Beef Cattle Research Station. The data were analyzed using three non-linear growth curve models: von Bertalanffy, logistic, and Gompertz. The coefficients of determination ( R 2 ) of the growth equation for the respective models were 0.996, 0.981, and 0.992. The estimated age and body weight at puberty for each model were 6.43 months and 144.09 kg, 13.94 months and 164.082 kg, and 11.76 months and 169.571 kg, respectively. The Gompertz function best fit the growth rate and exhibited the smallest standard deviation.
