    Abstract:
    This accessible yet in-depth textbook describes the step-by-step processes involved in biomedical device design. Integrating microfabrication techniques, sensors and digital signal processing with key clinical applications, it covers: the measurement, amplification and digitization of physiological signals, and the removal of interfering signals; the transmission of signals from implanted sensors through the body, and the issues surrounding the powering of these sensors; networks for transferring sensitive patient data to hospitals for continuous home-monitoring systems; tests for ensuring patient safety; the cost-benefit and technological trade-offs involved in device design; and current challenges in biomedical device design. With dedicated chapters on electrocardiography, digital hearing aids and mobile health, and including numerous end-of-chapter homework problems, online solutions and additional references for extended learning, it is the ideal resource for senior undergraduate students taking courses in biomedical instrumentation and clinical technology.

    Digitization projects enable organisations to disseminate their information all over the world. This book chapter assessed digitization of archival materials post-apartheid in South Africa. The literature review was used to assess the state of digital records in South Africa. The researcher found that most of digitisation project conducted in post-apartheid South Africa were conducted without digital framework or strategy, lack of skills, and lack of personnel to conduct digitization project. The success of digitization project depends on collaboration of organisation.

    For meeting the special requirements,a pocket data collector scheme based on digital signal processor(DSP) was proposed.The hardware circuit design was completed and the thoughtway of software was given.The TMS320VC5509A DSP was selected as the core processor.The collector could realize analog and digital signal acquirement and processing,and had the ability of huge-capacity and long-term data storing.It also could export data file to PC by USB interface.

    Introduced the design of high-speed data acquisition and processing system based on DSP.It can do acquisition at 80 MS/s and is flexible to implement different kinds of DSP algorithms.The design is simple,reliable and universal.The system includes A/D converter,the digital signal processor DSP and the communication port based on USB.It has been proved that the virtual oscillograp based on this system is of wide use value.

    This study reconfigures meanings of photographs for appearing of visual culture paradigm. By this, a strategy model for digitization could establish which needs when photographs are digitized. A strategy model for digitization is based on essential issues when digitized. Also, applying the project life-cycle and digitization chain model, the processes are suggested as a general reference model. Broadly, Three steps, Pre-project step, Production step, Post-project step, are divided and Specifically, Four steps, (1) Establishment and management of the whole project plans (2) Selecting the target for the digitization of photographs (3) Digital Conversion and Quality Control (4) Preservation and access, are separated. Substantial digitization strategy of photographs is built based on chain model of digitization to guarantee qualities of creating digital objects. Each step is constituted with basic processes, details and checklists.

    Digitization implies conversion of a paper document to a digital document. The main reasons for library digitization are to enhance access and preservation of library resources. Despite the benefits of library digitization, it is disheartening to know that while libraries in developed countries are putting in efforts digitizing their resources, little effort is being put by libraries in developing countries to digitize their resources. Hence, this chapter attempts to create awareness of the importance of library digitization in the preservation and enhancement of access of library resources. In addition to discussing the roles of library digitization in preservation and enhancement of access of library resources, the chapter also discussed some digitization tools, some misconceptions of library digitization, stages of library digitization, and some challenges of library digitization. Some recommendations were also given in the chapter.

    The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum (BAAM) has been involved in many digitization-related projects. Part of them were external projects where the museum played a secondary part, while in others the BAAM team was a main player. Abdelfattah analyses some of these projects and discusses the lessons learnt from each of them. He also highlights the role of museum professionals in formulating clear objectives for digitization, and the subsequent strategies formulated to achieve them. Finally, the paper presents some of the digitization advantages, opportunities, difficulties, and challenges based on the BAAM experiences.

    A new storage measurement system based on TMS320F2812 DSP,external expansion memory and USB is proposed.By using the capability of high-speed computing,powerful real-time processing and abundant on-chip peripheral modules of TMS320F2812 DSP,the system can realize fast signal acquisition and real-time processing,resolving the problems of slow processor and poor real-time processing capability of the traditional storage measurement system based on the MCU and CPLD.
