A new Schiff base, dhpyr4apbi, was synthesized from 2-(4-aminophenyl)benzimidazole and 2,5-dehydropyrrolidine-N-aldehyde and its complexes with Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) halides were prepd. Physicochem. properties of these metal complexes were studied using elemental anal., molar conductance, 1H NMR and IR measurements. The complexes are nonelectrolytes and are dimeric in nature with the empirical formula M2L2X4 (M = Zn, Cd, Hg; X = Cl, Br.). The min. energy configuration was obtained for these complexes using the mol. model Pro Plus. All the complexes were screened for their biol. activities. The Cd(II) and Hg(II) complexes show moderate antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas fluorescens.

This work represents the preparation of the starting material, 3-chloro-2-oxo-1,4-dithiacyclohexane (S) using a new method. This material was reacted with, 4-phenylthiosemicarbazide to give (H3NS3) as a tetradentate ligand H3L. New complex of rhenium (V) with this ligand of the formula [ReO(L)] was prepared. New complexes of the general formula [M(HL)] of this ligand when reacted with some metal ions where: M = Ni(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Zn(II), Hg(II) have been reported. The ligand and the complexes were characterized by infrared, ultraviolet–visible, mass, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance and atomic absorption spectroscopic techniques and by (HPLC), elemental analysis, and electrical conductivity. The proposed structure for H3L with Re (V) is square pyramidal, while Ni(II) complex was square planar geometry, and with the rest of metal ions are distorted tetrahedral.

Several metal complexes of pantoprazole, [Cu(PPZ)(H2O)Cl], [Zn(PPZ)2], [Cd(PPZ)2].1.5H2O and [Hg(PPZ)(H2O)Cl] have been synthesized and characterized. Elemental analysis, IR, UV-Visible spectral analysis, magnetic measurement, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetric and cyclic voltammetric techniques were used for their characterization. The lipophilic weak base pantoprazole (PPZ) act as a potential bidentate ligand forming coordination complexes with divalent metal ions through anionic imidazolyl N- and O atom of sulfinyl >S=O group. All complexes possess tetrahedral geometry. Dhaka Univ. J. Sci. 66(2): 151-156, 2018 (July)
