Abstract:
There are various unseen and unpredictable networking states in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) that adversely affect the aggregated data quality. After reviewing the existing approaches of data quality in WSN, it was found that the solutions are quite symptomatic and they are applicable only in a static environment; however their successful applicability on dynamic and upcoming reconfigurable network is still a big question. Moreover, data quality directly affects energy conservation among the nodes. Therefore, the proposed system introduces a simple and novel framework that jointly addresses the data quality and energy efficiency using probability-based design approach. Using a simplified analytical methodology, the proposed system offers solution in the form of selection transmission of an aggergated data on the basis of message priority in order to offer higher data utilization factor. The study outcome shows proposed system offers a good balance between data quality and energy efficiency in contrast to existing system. In this paper we study the problem of covering the perimeter of a region of interest with a wireless sensor network in order to monitor the trespassing in surveillance applications. We will characterize in a probabilistic context the relationship between the parameters of the sensor network, e.g. number of sensors or sensor density, and the coverage capability and energy efficiency.

The conflicting demands of growing building energy use against targets for reducing carbon emissions coming from the building sector has gained widespread attention. Energy efficiency is one of the few techniques which has been used to tackle the great concern of increased energy use and carbon emissions in many countries. Energy efficiency is considered a key element of energy conservation and a contributor to the reduction of carbon emission in many countries throughout the world, not least because of the high proportion of the total energy used by the buildings the building sector. Some countries have now introduced building regulations concerning energy conservation and the use of energy efficiency measures. In the UK, the government has introduced the Building Regulations Approved Document Part L regarding the conservation of fuel and power. This paper presents a showcase of a newly built office buildings in the UK and demonstartes how the energy efficiency technology in buildings might contribute towards energy conservation and fully comply with the building regulations. A large array of energy efficiency solutions are used such as a ventilation system with an efficient high heat recovery system, lighting controls linked to daylighting, etc. Using energy efficiency technology the office building in case study has shown compliance with the building regulations and has also conserved energy. This paper will demonstrate that energy conservation and compliance with building regulations are achieved through early incorporation into the building design. The show case of an office building in this paper brings practical applications to building services engineers and consulting engineers who might want to design an office building that conserves the energy. Certainly, Part L of the Building Regulations has statutory standing as legislation in the UK, however this regulation has been amended and synchronised with the Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings (EPBD) set up by the European Parliament and Council on energy efficiency of buildings. So this study will not be only useful for building engineers in the UK but also in the EU as well as any part of the globe which use EPBD as the basis to develop local energy codes.

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) consist of sensor nodes. These sensor nodes are usually used to monitor different physical or environmental conditions. Configuration of wireless sensor networks requires certain functions to be automatically assigned to sensor nodes. The most important research problem that needs to be addressed in order to support autonomous configuration of WSN is the assignment of roles to sensor nodes based on the properties of the network. These roles represent the task that a specific node is supposed to fulfill. The assignment of roles and task to the suitable sensor nodes would ensure the increase in performance and longevity of the network. This paper discusses the different role assignment algorithms that are used in wireless sensor networks.

This paper examines energy conservation and energy efficiency policies and programmes, mainly in the UK but also in Denmark and the Netherlands. It explores the theoretical and practical differences between conservation and energy efficiency and shows how, particularly in the household sector, energy demand continued to increase despite a range of policies to improve energy efficiency. Energy efficiency's ability to deliver energy and CO 2 savings may be significantly counter-balanced in the short term by trends towards, greater use of appliances and increasing comfort standards. Over the medium and longer term energy efficiency should prove much more beneficial as saturation is reached for many energy services. However without action to raise energy prices (e.g. through taxation) the potentially beneficial effects of energy efficiency programmes may be limited.

This paper using DEA-Malmquist productivity index evaluation method, build an evaluation index system of provincial energy conservation and emissions reduction including the energy conservation, emission reduction, desirable output and undesirable output indicators. The result shows that the efficiency of China's energy conservation and emissions reduction is promoted, mainly owes to technological progress; the efficiency of energy conservation and emissions reduction between regions are different. With the exception of Shanxi, Guizhou, Beijing, Inner Mongolia and Zhejiang having bigger than 1.1 in the efficiency of energy conservation and emissions reduction, all other regions present an obvious gap from the highest one. In particular, the efficiency in Qinghai, Guangxi, Chongqing, Sichuan and Xingjiang is lesser than 1, indicating that the efficiency has much space to improve. And then, the redundancy of the input is used to further analyze the cause of the efficiency of energy conservation and emissions reduction. We find that the redundancy of energy consumption is the largest among all the input in nation and regions, which reflect that the low energy efficiency is the most important reason restricts the efficiency of the energy conservation and emissions reduction. Generally, the input efficiency in eastern region is higher than the central and western regions, which can explain why the energy conservation and emissions reduction is most efficient in eastern region.

In this paper,14 industrial sectors' energy efficiencies and losses are studied using DEA based on a detailed accounting of industrial capital stock. It indicates:(1)Overall,energy efficiency in every sector has been improved. As a matter of fact, this improvement was not continuous, while there was a U type changing between 1990 and 1995.(2)There is not convergence tendency between industries' energy efficiency although all industrial sectors' energy efficiencies are rising.(3)As industrial energy efficiency improving, the absolute amount of energy is still large indicating great potential for energy conservation. From the perspective of energy conservation planning, two type of sectors—high efficiency high loss and low efficiency high loss—must be paid particular attention. Finally, the factors affecting energy efficiency are carried out using econometrical methods.

In wireless sensor networks, the number of sensor nodes has direct relation to the cost of total wireless sensor networks, and at the same time, the problem is closely connected to wireless sensor networks' performance, such as robust, fault-tolerance, and furthermore, it is considered at first as wireless sensor networks are designed. Therefore, the research on the number of sensor nodes has significant meanings of theory and practice to design of wireless sensor networks. By computation and analysis, the sensor deployments in the form of equilateral triangle, as a rule, are better than those in the form of square, and the efficient coverage area ratios decrease with increasing number of sensor nodes.
