    Abstract:
    By analyzing seam thickness and seam hardness, the authors think that it is feasible for seam 3# to apply longwall top-coal caving mining. The equipments used in working face can be small sized and light-type. The paper points out that it is key technology for longwall top-coal caving mining to improve caving ability of top coal, to increase recovery ratio of top coal, and to control gas.

    Aimed at investigating top coal caving of coal mine,based on physical and mechanical parameters of 6# coal seam in Changqing coal mine,this paper introduces the use UDEC of to develop face trend numerical model and analyze the influence of face-promoting distance on top coal caving height.The results shows that the advancing face results in the increasing yield and broken height of top coal of the coal seam and increasing range of caving and broken range.20 m advance tends to stabilize damage extent and damage shape,with consequent 9 m yield and broken height.The better caving of the coal seam allows mining method of comprehensive caving to be used.The study provides a theoretical basis for caving of 6# coal seam in Changing coal mine.

    Underground coal production at GLE Turkey was originally won from conventional longwall mining (drill and blast) and more recently from the innovative use of the mechanised longwall top coal caving method. This latter method was introduced to gain maximum tonnage from the extraction of an 8 m lignite coal seam under very difficult mining conditions. The present paper discusses the application of the longwall top coal caving method and its advantages and disadvantages compared with conventional longwall mining at the mine. In general adequate retreat rates were achieved once sufficient experience of the top coal caving method allowed the method to be refined. This is especially important at GLE-Turkey as major lignite coal reserves are at 400–600 m depth and will present a challenge to mine effectively and economically.

    The top coal caving makes coal natural fracturing and crushing and to emit from support drawpoint using mining support pressure,so good or bad of top coal caving characteristics becomes key to the mining method.According to occurrence condition of coal seam of Lutian coal mine,the paper analyzed and evaluated top coal caving characteristics for 1604 fully mechanized caving face of the coal mine by using the classification method of fuzzy mathematic and programming calculation of Matlab and combining the following six factors of coal seam strength,covered depth,joint crack developing extent,dirt band height,coal seam height and filling coefficient of immediate roof.The evaluation result showed that the top coal caving characteristics is good,and it has some guiding significance to production practice of Lutian coal mine.

    Through emit fuzzy cluster analysis of the caving ability of 3#coal seam in Nanyang Coal Mine, it is obtained that 3# coal seam has good caving ability and is suitable for adopting top coal caving method. Against the characteristic with weak technical force of local coal mine, fully consider high dependability on the selecting type of the equipment, in order to respond to the request production and fertile steadily.

    By underground test in 12108 Full-mechanized Caving Mining Face with 7m thick coal-seam in Liuta Colliery of Shendong Coal Corporation,the influence of different top-coal caving techniques on minig-to-caving ratio,top-coal recovery ratio,mining speed and efficiency was analyzed.Results showed that after applying full-mechanized caving mining method,roof safe factor increased,initial investment decreased and recovery ratio added,could realize the goal of safe,high-production,high-efficiency and high mining ratio,which provided rational theoretical basis for mining similar coal-seam.

    Since the middle of 1980's, the longwall top-coal caving technique has developed rapidly in China. At present, it is one of the main approaches in the thick coal seam mining. This paper describes some mechanics problems of the caving technique, such as the damage and failure of the top-coal, the strata behaviors in the caving face, and the relation of the support and the surrounding rock. In order to employ the caving technique in a widespread scope, the problems such as the caving technique in the hard coal seam, the moving and running of the loose top-coal,and the upper floating of the gas etc. should be systematically studied.
