    Abstract:
Abstract In 2016–2018 in Starogród, in historical Chełmno Land in northern‐central Poland, remains were discovered of a stronghold (convent house) of the Knights of the Teutonic Order that was founded in the 1230s. After a search lasting more than 100 years, remains were also discovered of the oldest and repeatedly translocated city of Chełmno, which was founded by the German Knights at the same time. Non‐invasive and archaeological studies were conducted as part of the project Castra Terrae Culmensis, at the edges of the Christian world , whose main aim was to answer central questions concerning the beginnings of the State of the Teutonic Order in Prussia. One specific goal was to discover the oldest location of the aforementioned city, founded in 1232. The article presents the results of geophysical, archaeological and geomatic analyses that confirm historical records in the fourteenth‐century German Chronicle and helped to piece together the history of the place where one of the oldest Teutonic Order earth‐and‐timber strongholds and cities chartered under Chełmno Law stood.

Background: Geomatics describes the activities involved in acquiring and managing geographical data and producing geographical information for scientific, administrative and technical endeavors. As an emerging science, geomatics has a great potential to support public health. Geomatics provides a conceptual foundation for the development of geographic information systems (GIS), computerized tools that manage and display geographical data for analytical applications. As descriptive epidemiology typically involves the examination of person, place and time in the occurrence of disease or injury, geomatics and GIS can play an important role in understanding and preventing injury. Aim: This article provides a background to geomatics for those in the injury prevention field who are unfamiliar with spatial analysis. We hope to stimulate researchers and practitioners to begin to use geomatics to assist in the prevention of injury. Methods: The authors illustrate the potential benefits and limitations of geomatics in injury prevention in a non-technical way through the use of maps and analysis. Results: By analysing the location of patients treated for fall injuries in Central Toronto using GIS, some demographic and land use variables, such as household income, age, and the location of homeless shelters, were identified as explanatory factors for the spatial distribution. Conclusion: By supporting novel approaches to injury prevention, geomatics has a great potential for efforts to combat the burden of injury. Despite some limitations, those with an interest in injury prevention could benefit from this science.

Several studies and symposiums have stated that the surveying and mapping profession is evolving rapidly and that post-secondary education should be modernized. Laval University has recently revised its undergraduate curriculum and the result, implemented in the autumn of 1986, is a modern innovative program that leads to a B.A.Sc. in geomatics. In addition, a one-year Certificate in Geomatics presently being prepared is introduced. Finally, the word “geomatics”, widely used in French, is explained and the B.A.Sc. curriculum is given in the annex.

Abstract. Geomatics vocational education (VE) is very important for the high-quality development of geomatics industry and high-level supply of skilled talents. Firstly, the paper briefly introduced the development history of geomatics VE in China, and summarized the current status of geomatics VE. Secondly, the paper analysed the issues and problems of geomatics VE, including insufficient input, ambiguous orientation, slowly technology updating, weak teaching staff and closed communication environment. Next, the paper reported the recent reforms of geomatics VE, including the revision of discipline catalog, training objectives and requirements and recommended curriculum standards at different levels. Then, latest developments of teaching resources and training platform are discussed. Finally, the paper proposed an outlook of geomatics VE in China.

Geospatial technology has been identified as one of the three most important emerging fields along with nanotechnology and biotechnology. The application of the technology is expected to grow and become more diversified in the coming years. In Saudi Arabia, the utilization of geotechnology is growing but still limited compared to the Western world. The growth of geomatics technologies could be aided by strategic manpower development through adequate geospatial education. The paper discusses the need for geospatial education and the development of the emerging technology in the Kingdom. It highlights the status of geomatics education and elaborates on the demand for skilled geospatial personnel by the industry. It also discusses the challenges hindering the development of geomatics education. The field of geomatics will develop further if adequate and needed attention is given to geospatial education and training.
