    Abstract:
Abstract Hagemann's ester (IIa) and the demethyl analogue (VI) (in equilibrium with the isomer (VII)) in Py/CHCl3 or in DMSO undergo regiospecific arylation at C‐1 with aryl‐lead triacetates (I) to yield (III) and (VIII), respectively.

The use of heterocyclic N-functionality for anchoring a Pd-catalyst to effect C-H activation at remote but geometrically distinct sites is reported. Thus coupling of alkyl- or aryl-substituted pyridines, methyl-substituted quinolines and condensed systems, as well as pyrazoles with aryl iodines under Pd catalysis in the presence of a Ag(I) source affords arylated products in reasonable yields with modest scope in functionality in the aryl iodine partner. Noteworthy iodo over bromo, i.e. FG = Br, coupling selectivity is observed.

Aryl sulfides were obtained from the coupling reaction of S-aryl (or S-alkyl) thioacetates and aryl bromides in the presence of palladium catalyst. This reaction method enables the one-pot synthesis of symmetrical and unsymmetrical diaryl sulfides by employing potassium thioacetate with aryl iodides and aryl bromides.

6-Phenanthridinones and their heterocyclic analogues were synthesized through a one-pot procedure based on consecutive Pd-catalyzed aryl−aryl and N-aryl coupling from iodoarenes ortho-substituted by electron-releasing substituents and amides of o-bromoarene- and heteroarenecarboxylic acids.
