Assessment of the Alkaline Earth Metals (Ca, Sr, Ba) and Their Associated Health Impacts

The celestite ore mainly consists of strontium sulfate,barium sulfate and calcium sulfate.The strontium,barium and calcium are difficult to separate from each other,because all of them belong to alkaline earth metallic elements and their characteristics are quite alike.Three determining methods of strontium,barium and calcium content in celestite were compared in this paper.The results showed that volumetric method has high recovery,X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry has high precision,and inductuvely coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry(ICP-AES) has great advantages in determining trace elements.

An unprecedented ligand bending mode is displayed by the acetylide ligands in the first structurally characterized σ-bound organometallic strontium and barium complexes [M([18]crown-6)(CCSiPh3)2] (M=Sr, Ba). Furthermore, the observed decrease of the angle at the sp-hybridized C atom on descending Group 2 (see structures depicted) affords new information that will lead to a better understanding of the bonding in alkaline earth metal compounds.

SEPARATION OF BARIUM FROM STRONTIUM USING COMPLEXONE III. A SULPHATE METHOD FOR SEPARATING ALKALINE EARTH ELEMENTS

A method was developed for separating Ba and Sr as sulfates in solutions containing complexone Hf at pH 6.4 to 6.8. The method was tested on synthetic mixtures of salts for 5 to 50 mg of Ba and Sr and their ratios from 1: 10 to 10: 1. A sulfate method was suggested for separating Ba, Sr, and Ca in complexone- containing solutions. A method is also described for the separation and determination of small amounts of Ba and Sr in rocks. (auth)
