Abstract:
This report documents the completion of milestone STPRO4-4 Kokkos back-ends research, collaborations, development, optimization, and documentation. The Kokkos team updated its existing backend to support the software stack and hardware of DOE's Sierra, Summit and Astra machines. They also collaborated with ECP PathForward vendors on developing backends for possible exa-scale architectures. Furthermore, the team ramped up its engagement with the ISO/C++ committee to accelerate the adoption of features important for the HPC community into the C++ standard. Keywords:

The article discussed here deals with a milestone whose location is unknown, but which is understood to have been erected 1.5 km away from the city center of Cibyra, based on the two inscriptions it bears. The milestone in question has two inscriptions indicating two different uses. Both inscriptions are written in Ancient Greek. While the first inscription dates to the Severan Period (AD 198-209), the latter belongs to the period of First Tetrarchy (AD 293-305). Both inscriptions give the city of Cibyra as caput viae and record the same distance. Thus, it is determined that the same milestone is reused after ca. hundred years. In the article, the routes related to Cibyra and the milestones that give Cibyra as caput viae are also discussed. In both uses, the milestone in question refers to repair and regulation works. This situation can be associated with the eastern campaigns during the Severan Period and the reconstruction efforts carried out during the Diocletianic Era.

Objectives: Prior literature suggests that incongruities between male and female resident’s procedural competency may be explained by gender bias during the evaluation process. There are no known studies investigating gender differences in the assessment of ultrasound-based procedural skills among emergency medicine (EM) residents. The purpose of this study was to evaluate for gender differences in ultrasound milestone assessments among EM residents. Methods: This is a retrospective study including EM residents. Milestone assessment data were collected from a total of 3 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) EM residency programs representing a 3-year period The outcome measures included mean milestone levels, milestone levels at baseline and graduation and differences in milestone achievement between female and male EM residents. An unpaired Student’s t -test was used to compare milestone scores between female and male residents. Results: A total of 456 ultrasound milestone evaluations were collected from 91 EM residents (34 females [37%] and 57 males [63%]). No significant differences were noted in the overall mean milestone level between females (2.3±0.6) and males (2.2±0.6) ( P =0.387). There were no significant differences noted in the ultrasound milestone level between females (0.8±0.6) and males (0.7±0.7) at baseline ( P =0.754). Although it did not reach statistical significance ( P =0.197), the increase in the mean ultrasound milestone level from baseline to graduation was greater in males (3.4±0.7) compared to females (3.1±0.7). Conclusion: Overall, there were no statistically significant differences in the mean ultrasound milestone levels between females and males. The rate of ultrasound milestone level achievement during EM residency training at our institution had a slight tendency to be higher for males than females in the observed residency programs; however, this also did not reach statistical significance. Possible gender bias while evaluating ultrasound milestone levels needs to be further studied on a larger scale. Keywords: ultrasound, gender, assessment, milestones, emergency medicine

Editor—Lloyd and Brodie propose that the ability of an 18 month old child to recognise television images may be a useful milestone in the assessment of development.1 Their data derive from the examination of two conditions only: Down's syndrome and normality. To extend the concept to include learning disabilities in general, language disorders, and autism is not necessarily valid.
The authors found that their milestone had a high degree of specificity (96%): very few normal children were unable to recognise television images. The sensitivity of the milestone—its ability to detect Down's syndrome—was 81%. One fifth of children with Down's syndrome were not detected. We do not know how sensitive the milestone is to learning disability generally, language disorders, or autism. We cannot assume that the findings with the group of children with Down's syndrome can be generalised. Therefore, the clinical utility of this developmental milestone has not yet been established.

In the following article, Akira Kojima, managing director and editorial page editor of the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, evaluates the 2000 Kyushu-Okinawa Summit. In contrast to those critics who contend that the summit has deteriorated into an irrelevant and redundant international gathering, Kojima argues that the summit is even more important than it has ever been. In this evaluation of the 2000 G8 Summit, he outlines the role of the summit and, in particular, explains the significance of the summit for Japan, both for politicians and for the general public. He also discusses the rationale for the choice of Okinawa as the venue for the last G8 Summit of the twentieth century.

Milestone is often used in repetitive construction work. This paper describes adaptation of milestone to scheduling technique. Milestone can be applied in two ways. In the first way, manpower coordination is checked and changed according to the probability of achievement at the next milestone, while the one at the final milestone is considered in the second way. Scheduling application on a sample project is shown to evaluate the probability of achievement and working ratio. It can be concluded that milestone is effective in schedule management, whose two methods are developed in this paper.

We all mark milestones in our lives: we graduate, we marry, have children, retire. This week marked a unique milestone in my medical career, a milestone that was unthinkable when I graduated in 1976. Back then, I was a young and idealistic physician, intent on curing illness and saving lives. I
