    The distribution of Russian sturgeon Acipenser güldenstädti and stellate sturgeon Acipenser stellatus in the Sea of Azov was studied. In March, 1993, the highest population density of the Russian sturgeon was detected in the southwestern, central, and south regions of the sea. The highest number of fishes captured per trawling sample was 149. The distribution of stellate sturgeon was similar, and a high population density was observed in the same regions. The highest density corresponded to 121 fishes per trawling sample. A high proportion of young fishes was characteristic of both species in summer. Thus 112 out of 140 Russian sturgeon fishes and 32 out of 112 stellate sturgeon fishes were young. Nonuniform distribution of the nutritive base was assumed to be a possible cause of the nonuniform distribution of sturgeon species.

    At the work on the basis of empirical data on the number of generations 1959-1987of Beluga (Huso, hoso L), sturgeon (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii Brand), stellate sturgeon (Acipenser stellatus Pallas), the coefficient of yield to the fishey of young fishes, which were cultivated at the fishery plants of Russia, was calculated. You can see the analysis of scales of natural spawning of sturgeon. Determined the proportions of fish from natural and artificial origin: Beluga, Russian sturgeon, stellate sturgeon. This work shoes recommendations for conservation and restoration of sturgeon populations in the Caspian Sea.

    ABSTRACT This study aimed to describe and validate the formation of the rings in the spine of the pectoral fin and to determine the coherence of the OTC mark with the rings of three species of Caspian Sea sturgeon, the Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus), the Starry sturgeon (Acipenser stellatus) and Ship sturgeon (Acipenser nudiventris). Validation was achieved by comparing the total radius of the fin spine of fish of known age after one and two years of growth with the measured radius of the first and second rings in the zone. There was no overlap between the measured radius for the first year and the increase for the second. The Ship sturgeon showed the largest width of the second ring followed by the Persian sturgeon and Stellate sturgeon. The results indicate that the highest growth parameter belongs to the juvenile Ship sturgeon. This research showed that chemically marking the fin spines of juvenile Acipenseridae leads to unbiased estimates and contributes to the knowledge of the population dynamics of these species. The study found that the combination of the dial ring of the pectoral fin spine with growth validated the age estimation in juvenile sturgeon Ship, Persian, and Starry sturgeon.

    The purpose of this article is to investigate the optimal environment for (chemical and physical properties of water, feeding type), and biological indicators (growth, development and sustainability) of, sturgeon breeding in pond adopted to natural environmental conditions. The research resulted in data on productive (vital capacity) and biological indicators (weight, length, maximum, nominal and daily average growth of biomass) of four species of sturgeon: Russian sturgeon (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii), Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii Brandt), stellate sturgeon (Acipenser stellatus Pallas), and paddlefish (Polyodon spathula Walbaum). The water analysis has shown the following physical and chemical parameters of water in the reservoirs: pH – 3.8-6.6, total hardness – 2.8-4.8 mg-equ/dm3. This research shows that the highest rates of daily average growth for the five-month period had the paddlefish fry (24.44 g), Russian (22.13 g) and Siberian sturgeon fry (19.28 g). Final weighting shown that paddlefish fry had the best indicators among all studied species (m=1.8 kg). The coefficient of variation (Cv > 7) indicates high phenotypic variation in all studied species of sturgeon. Ichtyopathological study of experiments revealed that none of stellate sturgeon, Russian and Siberian sturgeon and paddlefish were infected. As it was revealed, feed with higher protein (56% relative to 50 %) causes greater increase in weight (+0.2 kg). Obtained results show that paddlefish and stellate sturgeon have the best parameters for breeding in ponds. Research results can be applied for sturgeon breeding in ponds with similar chemical and physical properties.

    PAGE(polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis) and saturation ammonium sulfate sedimentation were used to analyze serum proteins of three sturgeons,2~+ year old Amur sturgeon Acipenser schrenckii Brandt,3~+ year old Chinese sturgeon Acipenser sinesis Gray and 3 years old Huso Beluga.Chinese sturgeon,Amur sturgeon,and Huso Beluga had total serum protein level of 18.70 mg/mL,21.25 mg/mL and 24.60 mg/mL,respectively.Relationship coefficient of serum protein showed that Amur sturgeon was more closer to Chinese sturgeon than to Huso Beluga.There were 8 bands in Chinese sturgeon,13 bands in Amur sturgeon and 8 bands in Huso Beluga by PAGE.

    Abstract In the Lower Danube, sturgeon populations have declined dramatically in recent decades. Although efforts have been made at the legislative level since 2006, by forbidden commercial fishing, an assessment of stocks and conservation status of sturgeon species has not yet been made [1]. In this context, it is necessary to estimate the age and growth rate of sturgeon species in order to establish their current conservation status, with a high level of confidence. This article presents the long-term results obtained by INCDPM during 6 years of research in which were captured and released 108 specimens of beluga ( Huso huso ) and 193 specimens of stellat sturgeon ( Acipenser stellatus ). Thus, before the ultrasonically tagging of the sturgeon specimens, informational volumes regarding the biometric parameters were collected simultaneously with the gender determination [1]. Based on the collected data and the calculus hypotheses, it was possible to determine the ages of the sturgeon specimens and to perfect the method of improving the confidence level of the data obtained from the in-situ investigations. In order to foster sustainable management of Danube sturgeon populations, it is essential to carry out assessments with a high degree of confidence of the age of anadromous sturgeon species. The quantification of the population depends on species spawning cycles taking into account that they are characterized by high longevity.
