Abstract:
Ginkgo biloba extract (EGb 761) is a standardized extract of Ginkgo biloba leaves and has anti- atherosclerosis properties. Many patients with atherosclerosis disorders take Ginkgo biloba extracts to supplement current therapy. In addition, normal healthy individuals also take Ginkgo biloba extracts...Keywords:

Ginkgo biloba extracts (EGb) are well-defined plant extracts. It has several indications as dementia, macula degeneration, tinnitus and winter depression. A review of the current and past literature about older people with Alzheimer's dementia or vascular dementia or age-associated memory impairment treated with Ginkgo biloba extract, reveals that EGb has reproducible effects on cognitive functions in Alzheimer's disease. The drug is well tolerated.

[Objective] To observe the effect of Ginkgo biloba extract EGB761 on liver weight and morphology in hypercholesterolemia rabbits. [Methods] The hypercholesterolemia in rabbit was induced by refer to D. Larry Sparks'methods. EGB761 was used to treat the rabbits at a dose of 50mg/kg/d and simvastatin, 5mg/kg/d, as a positive control drug. The index of liver and body was evaluated and the morphological changes of the liver were observed. [Results] Ginkgo biloba extract EGB761 could effectively reduce the liver body index (P0.01) without significant difference compared to the effect of positive drug simvastatin (P0.05). General and the microscope morphological observations found that EGB761 could effectively change the general form of fatty degeneration of the liver and histological patterns. [Conclusion] Ginkgo biloba extract EGB761 can effectively prevent and treat fatty liver induced by hypercholesterolemia.

Extract of Ginkgo biloba (EGb) is the main effective component withdrawn from a Ginkgo leaf. Extensive pharmacological studies have been carried out both at home and abroad with results revealing that EGb may prevent atherosclerosis through multiple mechanisms;including protecting blood vessel endotheliall cell,anti-inflammation,anti-oxidation stress, suppressing blood platelet activation and the accumulation and regulating lipid metabolism.

Objective:To evaluate effect of ginkgo biloba extract on renal damage induced by chronic hyperuricemia.Methods:113 Patients of chronic hyperuricemia with proteinuria were randomly divided into ginkgo biloba extract group (58 patients) and contrast group (55 patients). Both groups were given allopurinolum,100mg once, three times a day for 3 months, while ginkgo biloba extract was added with allopurinolum in ginkgo biloba extract group,80mg once, three times a day. Results:After three months,U-Alb?U-α 1-MG?U-Tf?TCH?TG?ηb?ηp?FIB in ginkgo biloba extract group were obviously improved(P0.001);there was significant difference between two groups(P0.001).Conclusion:Ginkgo biloba extract can reduce excretion of urine protein in chronic hyperuricemia, decrease blood viscosity and lipid, protect kidney, ginkgo biloba extract can be tried in chronic hyperuricemia to prevent and treat early renal damage.

Objective: To carry out a comparative exploration of the effects of Ginkgo biloba extract and Ginkgo flavonoid on lipid metabolism in SD rats with hyperlipidemia. Methods: After the rats were orally administered with 5 g·kg- 1of Ginkgo biloba extract and 50,100,150 mg·kg- 1of Ginkgo flavonoid and high fat feed for 10weeks,the contents of total cholesterol( TC),triglyceride( TG),high density lipoprotein cholesterol( HDL),aspartate aminotransferase( AST),and alanine aminotransferase( ALT) in serum were measured, and the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol( LDL-C),atherosclerosis index( AI),and TC / HDL-C were calculated. Results: The contents of TC,TG,LDL-C and the index of AI,TC / HDL-C decreased significantly, and the contents of HDL-C increased significantly in Ginkgo biloba extract and Ginkgo flavonoid groups. Conclusion: The Ginkgo biloba extract and flavonoids can regulate blood lipid metabolism. In comparison,Ginkgo biloba extract has a stronger, faster, and more stable effect of reducing cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein.
