The colour reaction of copper with 8 hydorxyquinoline in naphthalene phase has been studied. In the medium of NaAc-HAc (pH 4), the coloured complex of copper-8 hydroxyquinoline can be quantitatively extracted with naphthalene. Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 0 to 60μg/40mL of copper. The method has been applied to the determination of micro copper in copper ore with satisfactory results.

The effects of sodium alginate on orthophosphate corrosion inhibition for copper pipe in simulated soft water were investigated. The results showed that more soluble copper release was occurred in low levels for so- dium alginate. The 2-week aged copper pipe released more soluble copper than the 6, 12-month and 10-year aged copper pipe. The sequence of concentration of soluble copper release was C newC 6mC 12mC 10y. When the initial pH value was low, compared to the system of no sodium alginate, the soluble copper release distinctly increased in the presence of sodium alginate. The amount of soluble copper released from new copper pipe is lower than that from 6, 12-month and 10-year aged copper pipe, which due to the different components of copper corrosion by-products on the surface of different aged copper pipes and the different solubility of different corrosion by-products. The effects of different stagnation times on the concentration of soluble copper release were highly variable which due to the absorption of sodium alginate on the surface of copper surface and the complex between sodium alginate and copper ions.

To study the Cupric ion release characteristics of different copper raw materials in intrauterine device in vitro by ICP. Reveal the relationship between purity and shape of Cu-IUD copper and copper ion release.According to a certain proportion, the copper raw materials were 100 times diluted into the simulated uterine solution at 37 +/- 0.5 degrees C. Replaced medium at certain time points and collected soaking liquid. Using ICP analyzed the concentration of copper ion released. The largest daily release of copper ions was in the first 7 days. There was no statistically significant difference between the copper ion release amount of 99.99% and 99.95% purity copper wire (P > 0.05). The release of copper ion of the copper wire was far greater than that of the copper pipe in early stage (P < 0.01). The release amount decreased and stabilized at 56 day.Release characteristics of copper ion could effectively analysis by ICP. And in the same area, the release amount of copper ions of copper wire was greater than that of copper pipe.

Under the experimental conditions, the fluorescence reflectance of fabrics improved with the increase of the concentration of fluorescent dyes, but it showed downtrend over a certain concentration; the fluorescence reflectance was the highest at about pH = 5; The fluorescence reflectance of dyed fabrics was improved by fluorescence brightening agent (FBA), when the concentration of FBA in Fluorescent Yellow 2GL was increased from 0.1% to 5%, the fluorescence reflectance was improved from 8.43% to 18.59%, FBA only improved the brightness of non-fluorescent dyes, and no fluorescence was observed, the fluorescence reflectance of fabrics dyed with fluorescent dyes was lowered with the adding of non-fluorescent dyes.

Metallic copper surfaces rapidly and efficiently kill bacteria. Cells exposed to copper surfaces accumulated large amounts of copper ions, and this copper uptake was faster from dry copper than from moist copper. Cells suffered extensive membrane damage within minutes of exposure to dry copper. Further, cells removed from copper showed loss of cell integrity. Acute contact with metallic copper surfaces did not result in increased mutation rates or DNA lesions. These findings are important first steps for revealing the molecular sensitive targets in cells lethally challenged by exposure to copper surfaces and provide a scientific explanation for the use of copper surfaces as antimicrobial agents for supporting public hygiene.
