Abstract:
The function of a protein depends on its three-dimensional structure. Current approaches based on homology for predicting a given protein's function do not work well at scale. In this work, we propose a representation of proteins that explicitly encodes secondary and tertiary structure into fix-sized images. In addition, we present a neural network architecture that exploits our data representation to perform protein function prediction. We validate the effectiveness of our encoding method and the strength of our neural network architecture through a 5-fold cross validation over roughly 63 thousand images, achieving an accuracy of 80% across 8 distinct classes. Our novel approach of encoding and classifying proteins is suitable for real-time processing, leading to high-throughput analysis. Keywords:

The phonetic encoding algorithm with high quality and low speed appears continuously in the last thirty years. This paper expounds the developing history, various standards and applications of the phonetic encoding algorithm according to the classification of the wavelike encoding, parameter encoding and compound encoding.

Presents a method for analysis of automated highway throughput for AHS designs, including those with platooning. Simulation results are presented which show that increased information leads to higher throughput, and that a platooning design will have higher throughput than any individual vehicle design.

Sundisc Abrasives has recently started a new production line. Throughput at this new production line has been below expectations and in order for the production line to be profitable, the throughput has to be increased. This research aims to identify the reason that the throughput has been lower than expected and offers ways to increase the throughput to make the production line profitable, by means of a simulation study. The study shows that small improvements to the production line are insufficient to improve the throughput to necessary levels and proposes the addition of a new machine to the system.

It has long been established that the mean throughput time is a result from the relationship between the work in process (WIP) and output rate. In reality, however, throughput times are frequently dispersed broadly around this mean. With the aid of a model originally developed for lateness, it is now possible to describe the throughput times of individual orders. Accordingly, the throughput time can be divided into two components: WIP-dependent throughput time and sequence-dependent throughput time.

Presents exact throughput and stability analysis of the FDDI network system under general traffic configurations and a single asynchronous priority level of service. the authors obtain results relating each station's throughput to the system throughput. By exploiting these relations, the maximum throughput of a symmetrically loaded system and the throughput of a (nonsymmetrically) heavily or partially-heavily loaded system are derived. They develop a procedure for conducting throughput and stability analysis. They identify stable stations and compute the throughput levels attained by heavily loaded stations.< >

Seung-Nam Kim ` Suk-Chul RimDepartment of Industrial Engineering, Ajou University, Suwon 443-749, KoreaWhen a new facility such as automobile assembly line is designed, computer simulation is often used to estimate its actual throughput level. If it falls short of the target throughput level, then the design must be modified to increase the throughput capacity. For complex facilities having parallel processes and network of material flows, the modification procedure is not trivial. Even if the capacity of a particular bottleneck process is increased, the target throughput may not be achieved because the bottleneck may move to another process. Furthermore, each process has a different set of options with different cost to increase the capacity. In this study, we present a systematic procedure of determining the cost-effective set of options which achieves the target throughput. Keywords : Capacity, Cost-Effectiveness, Target Throughput, Simulation, Line Design

This paper presents various measures of a port’s optimum throughput to which its actual throughput can be compared in order to evaluate its performance. A port’s engineering optimum throughput is its maximum (technically efficient) throughput that physically can be handled by the port under certain conditions. A port’s economic optimum throughput is that throughput that satisfies an economic objective. It may be either an economic: (1) technically efficient optimum throughput (based upon the port’s economic production function), (2) cost efficient optimum throughput (based upon the port’s economic cost function) or (3) effectiveness optimum throughput (based upon the port’s effectiveness operating objective such as maximizing profits).

This study is dedicated to investigate WLAN throughput based on 802.11 data communication standard which employs 2.4GHz band, depending on its AP channels and density. In a space with high density of WLANs, throughput can be decreased due to radio wave interferences. In light of this fact, an experiment scenario has been created consisting of multiple WLANs where throughput can be measured with different combination of channels, consequently making it possible to determine more effective combination of channels. In parallel, throughput has been recorded with varying the number of APs installed within the experiment site to Fig. out the relationship between the number of APs and the throughput. According to the result of the measurement, channel 1, 5, 9, and 13 are suggested as more effective combination of channels, and declining throughput is shown as AP density increases.

The problem of finite state machine (FSM) encoding for low power in field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) is addressed. In this technology, one-hot encoding is typically recommended for large FSMs and binary encoding for small FSMs. A partitioned encoding approach is proposed which uses a combination of both binary encoding and zero-one-hot encoding with intermediate code size. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed encoding approach can produce significant power savings.

This article examines the application of different views of representation in the electoral systems at local government level: interest, corporate and mirror representation. The electoral framework underpins the process of representation, influencing both who are eligible to become voters and how their votes are collected and counted. The paper examines the interrelationship between representation and the electoral framework in local government in Victoria. We use a historical analysis, and identify a long period of interest representation; a short, relatively recent period of corporate representation; and an attempt to introduce some elements of mirror representation. We conclude by arguing that local electoral reform needs to take into account the multiple meanings of representation.
